JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Join the Thun Library team as our Cricut Innovation Intern for the 2024-2025 academic year!

The Thun Library recently acquired a Cricut (computer-operated cutting machine) and is looking for an intern to learn about this maker technology with the Thun Team, support student projects, and assist with the development of this new library service. The Cricut Innovation Intern will work closely with the Library’s Digital Innovation Specialist and play an important role in fostering creativity and innovation for our entire community. This position is part of the Bednar Internship Program through Penn State University Libraries.

This position is scheduled for up to 15 hours per week during library open hours and located in the Thun Library with the option for some remote work. Scheduled hours are based on the student’s availability and may change during the academic school year . Interns are not required to work during breaks or the summer. This position is part-time, non-benefitted, and with a starting wage of $12.00 per hour. Position Responsibilities

This position is composed of various tasks, a project based on your interests, and responsibilities required by the Bednar Internship Program.

No prior experience with makerspace technology is necessary. We will provide training to equip you with the skills needed to succeed in this position.  

Cricut Innovation Intern Tasks

  • Develop Cricut and other maker technology documentation for internal and external use
  • Manage tools and supplies, including monitoring materials and maintaining organization
  • Learn how to use new tools to support maker technology use in the library
  • Support patrons in implementing and troubleshooting projects
  • Create example projects to share with patrons
  • Provide feedback, share your perspective, and advocate for other students regarding the library’s maker technology services
  • A special project chosen by the intern. Some examples include:
    • Organizing craft events to support student wellness in partnership with library staff
    • Outreach to Berks Student Organizations and Clubs encouraging collaboration with the Thun Library on the use of maker technologies
    • Developing a method for sharing student maker projects with the Berks campus (blog, newsletter, social media posts, etc.)
    • Creating a mini maker technology learning resources library
    • Developing a promotional campaign for the library’s maker technology services (social media posts, digital signage, flyers, etc.)

Bednar Internship Responsibilities

  • Participate in a monthly Community of Practice (COP) with other Bednar Interns, which includes attending virtual discussions and completing short assignments in Canvas
  • Participate in the Student Employee Showcase held each April to showcase student projects
  • Write a stewardship letter with assistance from the COP

Requirements

  • Penn State Berks third-or-fourth year student exhibiting academic excellence
  • Openness to learning and playing with technology
  • Ability to clearly communicate via email, virtually, and in-person
  • Comfort providing support to patrons with little or no technology experience
  • Writing experience through school, work, volunteering, or personal projects
  • Can push a cart up to 50 lbs., lift equipment, and guide patrons around the library. Reasonable accommodations are available .
