The Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI) is a research organization at the University of Southern California (USC) and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). SC CTSI develops and provides resources, services, trainings and tools in support of researchers, academic leadership and partners that collaborate to achieve this exciting mission.

The Clinical Research Informatics Program Specialist provides project management, customer service, and administrative support for SC CTSIs Clinical Research Informatics (CRI) program. Assists with data request delivery, REDCap service desk management as well as program policy development and implementation and light calendaring. Provides consultation services to investigators interested in obtaining clinical data for research purposes.

Project/Program Management

  • Assists in the administration and coordination of a variety of research and/or administrative projects and provides quality control.

  • Serves as a resource for program information.

  • Assists in developing and implementing program goals and strategies.

  • Assists with short and long-term planning and design of project direction and objectives.

  • Participates in updating relevant program materials on various electronic web-based platforms: websites, intranets, Wikis, etc.

  • Develops marketing and program materials such as guides, PowerPoints, training aids, etc.

  • Attends and leads meetings with stakeholders, prepares agenda, takes meeting minutes, and follows up on action items as assigned.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of project direction, schedules, activities, etc.

  • Recommends and implements workflow modifications as necessary to ensure achievement of project / data delivery goals and objectives.

Customer Service & Data Delivery

  • Provides CRI-related customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers.

  • Performs research and offers solutions, options, and strategies.

  • Gathers data as necessary, refers to appropriate person or department as needed, and/or arranges for service.

  • Develops expertise in the various tools / services provided by the CRI core.

  • Develops and leads regular training sessions for users.

  • Helps develop, drive, and track the audit processes in place for data delivery.

  • Updates various ticketing and project management systems on a consistent basis.

  • Reviews / understands compliance documentation as it relates to the services provided.

  • Responsible for the billing process of the recharge core.

  • Manages daily tickets submitted to REDCap help desk

  • Troubleshoots and escalates issues in REDCap as needed

Administrative Support

  • Supports CTSI central administrative functions such as planning, organizing, coordinating, scheduling, and implementing program/project meetings and activities.

  • Provides consistent calendar support for CRI Directors, and ad hoc calendar management for the Program Managers.

  • Attends CRI meetings as assigned. Prepares agendas, gathers and organizes supporting information, and assists in the production and distribution of related materials.

  • Participates in the development and production of documents and reports for the program.

  • Responsible for maintaining an exceptional level of quality for administrative services provided.

  • Assists in developing, updating, and distributing department administrative policies and procedures as necessary within collective area.

  • Other duties as assigned

The hourly rate range for this position is $30.27-$34.31. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.


Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum educationMinimum Experience: 2 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Directly related professional experience in program specialization, e.g., counseling or teaching.
