Job Description

To achieve this, the skills of a creative designer are essential in communicating to students and delivering a student-centric experience.

Student Success Innovations is looking for a creative professional to use their design and storytelling skills to facilitate strategic communications and engage students. This team member will prepare a variety of skilled graphic designs and layouts for various marketing and communications materials using production techniques which may include computer graphic systems and software.

Essential Duties

  • Prepares highly effective and visually engaging stories, presentations and reports for specific audiences, informed by a broad understanding of audience needs and the department's mission and goals.
  • Communicates with key stakeholders to understand complex concepts and projects and the interests of department leadership; applies that understanding and visual design expertise to create concise visualizations.
  • Leads internal efforts to promote effective presentation design.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining content for ASU digital engagement technologies, as well as producing training materials for university staff.
  • Works with others to obtain appropriate data to tell a story or make a point.
  • Discovers, evaluates and prototypes new and emerging design and storytelling techniques and technologies.
  • Creates and designs graphics for layout of emails, social media graphics, posters, presentations, videos and web pages as requested by using the latest design methods.
  • Confers with stakeholders, ASU marketing staff and others regarding project specifications such as graphic content, layout and media requirements; may create composites and develop concepts depending on needs.
  • Ensures quality and accuracy of design materials by critically evaluating, thoroughly testing and proofing campaigns and complying with industry standards.
  • Maintains a high degree of technical knowledge and serves as a point of contact for all campaign production and best practices.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in arts, humanities or a related field AND five (5) years of experience working in a design/communications capacity; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing practices and principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of presentation design best practices and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of visual design best practice principles, theories, and integration strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices and techniques used in email, mobile app, social media and web design technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer-generated graphics programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in graphic design and layout.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital content and management concepts, principles and practices.
  • Experience in building HTML templates, websites and email campaigns based on ASU brand and industry standards.
  • Experience in the utilization of specified computerized graphic design programs.
  • Experience in effectively communicating marketing concepts clearly and in context to a variety of audiences with varying levels of understanding.
  • Experience in working in an environment subject to quickly changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills.
  • Experience in organization and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in problem solving and decision-making.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
