Position Summary

The COVID Response Care Coordinator reports to the Associate Dean for Student and Family Support and assists in the support and care for Columbia College (CC) and Columbia Engineering (SEAS) undergraduate students who test positive for COVID-19 or are identified as close contacts. The Coordinator will be part of a larger team that collaborates with various departments across the College and University to guide our undergraduate students through the isolation and quarantine process. This position will also be part of the College’s COVID response team that addresses ongoing issues and concerns related to undergraduate students.

This is a temporary position. The duration of the position is contingent upon continued need, but will not last beyond the spring semester, which ends in May 2022.


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Residential Life and Health & Wellness staff to address quarantine, isolation and student care needs related to COVID prevention and management. Build positive student relationships that contribute toward deepening the student experience.
  • Coordinate general support to students in isolation and quarantine by providing daily check-ins via zoom or phone, ensuring that students have adequate supplies and addressing non-medical questions or concerns.
  • Assist with all aspects of student intake and discharge to/from or transferring between isolation/quarantine. Communicate instructions to students on the process of moving into the quarantine/isolation housing and the process for requesting resources for emergency and non-emergency assistance.
  • Maintain availability to support students in isolation and quarantine by answering questions and making appropriate medical and non-medical (emotional, personal needs, and academic) referrals.
  • Provide wellness resources and support to address any non-medical need or concerns and answer questions as they arise.
  • Remain current on University COVID policies and procedures and serve as a resource to students to explain general processes, contact tracing, and COVID related information.
  • Act as an advocate for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate department.
  • Document and update various tracking spreadsheets and other tools to track/communicate student concerns and the resolution of concerns/issues.
  • Assist with triaging email inquiries to the CC/SEAS shared inbox.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree required with 0-2 years relevant experience coordinating processes in a fast paced environment; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Comfort working in a residential setting during pandemic and post-pandemic periods.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to work in a high-stress environment
  • Ability to develop effective processes and protocols in new and ambiguous settings
  • Ability to competently learn and effectively utilize software technology.
  • Strong organizational, relationship building, administrative and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have the capability and willingness to work independently, maintain a flexible attitude, exercise sound judgment and quick thinking, be a team player and uphold a caring disposition.
  • Required to work in-person; no option for remote work.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or during University closures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background or experience in social work, patient advocacy or residential life
  • Experience and capacity to build the partnerships and relationships
  • Crisis intervention and management and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a college or university student residential setting is preferred
  • Keen understanding of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
