Job Summary

The Course Design Production Lead reports to the Course Design Production Manager and will produce and edit videos for fully developed asynchronous courses, Professional Development Program (PDP) courses, the Teach Partnership program, which pairs faculty with course designers and producers to collaborate on targeted interventions designed to improve their courses, and other special projects requested by various departments within the Division of Continuing Education (DCE).


Position Description

The Course Design Production Lead supports multiple important DCE initiatives, including the scaling up of asynchronous offerings, supporting online PDPs, and expanding the Teach Partnership program. This position will collaborate directly with DCE faculty to design and produce a high volume of pre-produced video for their DCE courses. This work includes the technical aspects of video production, but more importantly it involves designing pedagogically appropriate media interventions, project management of large-scale media assets, and relationship building with faculty to make them feel comfortable in the studio. 

Other duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborates with faculty as lead producer on concurrent Teach Partnerships, including creative direction, script writing, project management, studio direction, and post-production/editing of all media assets associated with each course. Partnership work includes the production of pre-developed flipped classroom videos, welcome videos, course trailers, and/or other media assets to improve learning, support active learning, and increase student engagement in DCE courses. 
  • Acts as lead videographer and studio technician for concurrent pre-produced asynchronous courses for Harvard Extension School (HES), Harvard Summer School (HSS), and PDP from pre-production through final delivery of all media assets. This includes scheduling shoots in the Story Street Studio, DCE classrooms, or on location elsewhere, overseeing day-of shoot logistics, troubleshooting real-time technical issues, and the transfer and organization of all media assets to the media SAN. 
  • Assists Course Design Production Manager, Manager of DCE Studios, and other production leads on shoots in the Story Street Studio, Brattle Square Studio, DCE classrooms, or on location elsewhere. This on-site work includes real-time production support, camera operation, audio recording, lighting, and assisting faculty during video shoots. 
  • Collaborates with other departments outside of Teaching and Learning & PDP to produce and edit multimedia content for special projects. 
  • Assists Course Design Production Manager and other production leads on post-production of studio assets for asynchronous courses for HES, HSS, and PDP as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience working in the field of video production (studio experience preferred) 
  • Experience using industry standard video editing software, including Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Audition, and/or related software

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, film/television, video production, or digital media 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of videography, control room operations, studio lighting, and studio direction.  
  • Experience directing camera and lighting teams on location and in the studio 
  • The individual must be very detail-oriented and have excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated project management experience 
  • Experience in online education

This position will be based in Cambridge, MA. DCE is currently trialing hybrid workplace models with a minimum of 2 days per week on campus. DCE may adjust these as necessary or appropriate.
