Position Summary
The Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) is seeking skilled mental health clinicians who are dedicated to promoting the mental health of our students. The Counselor will be joining a dedicated and energetic staff at the CTC who are committed to cultural self-awareness and ongoing CTC and campus efforts to offer inclusive and accessible mental health services. In addition to brief counseling services, the CTC engages in active collaboration with campus partners, develops training and programming to address student mental health needs, and provides innovative service delivery. At the CTC our mission is to promote students’ psychological, academic, social, and cultural growth through professional and confidential counseling services. We accomplish this by maintaining an environment grounded in our values of compassion, collaboration, inclusion, and access.
The successful candidate will:
  • function as a strong generalist conducting intake assessments, triage assessments, and professional counseling services (including individual, couples, group) to our students.
  • have significant experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment, and other high acuity presentations.
  • be responsible for providing culturally congruent clinical services.
  • have experience in a fast-paced work environment and with the application of brief therapy models.
  • be a well-rounded professional, able to work well on a team, and contribute to giving & receiving consultations with colleagues.
  • have proficiency in presenting outreach programming.
  • have interest and/or experience in leading therapy and/or skills-based groups.

Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or social work, approved by the WI Professional Counselor section (MPSW 14.01 ). Currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT or working towards one of those licenses.
• The CTC is committed to equity and inclusion, and seeks mental health clinicians who are dedicated to ongoing learning and integrating a multicultural perspective into all aspects of their work.
Preferred Qualifications
• All post-degree supervised hours completed by start date ; currently licensed as an LPC, LCSW, or LMFT is strongly preferred.
• Two or more years of post-graduate clinical experience, with significant experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns. Experience with solution-focused (SFBT) and other brief treatment models is desired.
• Experience in higher education settings.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: crisis management, concerns related to neurodiversity, performance enhancement, academic skills training, brief intervention for trauma symptoms, creative/expressive arts interventions, eating and body image concerns.
• Commitment to providing group counseling (psychoeducational/skills workshops, support, and therapy groups).
• Significant experience with crisis intervention and risk assessment.
• Experience engaging in suicide prevention work.
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to persons identifying as: first generation, low income, person of color, LGB, transgender and gender non-conforming, veteran. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience working with culturally, racially, and diagnostically diverse college students.
• Experience providing treatment to underserved clients, including but not limited to: male-identified adults, students of color, athletes, veterans.
• Interest and/or experience providing clinical supervision.

Working conditions and environment
This is a 10-month, annual appointment. The successful candidate will be working 10 months of the year, and will be put on short work break for the June and July months.
Typical office hours (7:45am-4:30pm). Evening hours may be required as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours/week onsite. While no after-hours crisis coverage is required, our clinical staff members occasionally provide evening outreach programming and may be called in for a campus crisis response.
Expectations are to provide both telehealth and in-person counseling services.

The Division of Student Affairs’ role is to enhance and support students learning experience here at UWL. We work closely with faculty, staff, community members, alumni and most importantly, students to provide quality programs and services which promote learning, leadership, involvement, service and the celebration of diversity. The Division includes a number of departments: Campus Child Center, Counseling and Testing, Student Health Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Recreational Sports, Residence Life, Student Life, University Centers, and the Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students office.
