Position Summary

Michigan State University (MSU) Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) invites applications for the full-time outpatient therapist position in CAP's SEEC Program, an integrated mental health outpatient treatment program serving students experiencing significant psychopathology. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based, short-term therapeutic interventions to students in the SEEC program; facilitates one therapy group; provides limited crisis response services; and participates in the training of pre-licensed providers in CAPS' training programs. The SEEC program is committed to providing multiculturally sensitive, holistic, and client-centered service to all students, and the program embodies the social justice mission that is central to CAPS. The successful candidate will provide multiculturally responsive and evidence-based individual and group therapy services along with single-session crisis interventions.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Master's in Counseling, or Psychology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a clinic/agency environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job also requires certification or licensing by the State of Michigan.


Desired Qualifications
  • Licensed or limited license master- or doctoral-level clinician (e.g. licensed professional counselor, social worker, master or doctoral level psychologist) within 18 months of hire. 
  • Demonstrated competency in delivering evidence-based, short-term psychotherapies, especially DBT, CBT, and/or other treatment modalities.
  • Experience in providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed crisis intervention services to include facilitation of voluntary and involuntary inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, risk assessment and management, drop-in crisis service, and provider consultation and support Prior experience in functioning as a member of an integrated treatment team.
  • Prior experience in functioning as a member of an integrated treatment team.
