Counseling Services provides short-term professional counseling and psychiatric services to Georgia College & State University students to promote student success and academic retention.

Counseling - 70%

Provide individual, group and/or couples counseling to students to address personal (psychological/mental health), academic and career concerns. Engage in crisis intervention to address mental health emergencies, and maintain appropriate documentation.  This position focuses on addressing and improving mental health with a focus on helping underrepresented students with matters such as improving personal and academic success, enhancing transitional strategies, improving inclusivity, and maximizing a sense of belonging.

Outreach/Collaboration - 20%

  • Coordinate outreach programming. Develop and lead structured groups, workshops, presentations, and other prevention and psychoeducational outreach programming. 
  • Work individually and on committees with faculty, staff, other educational personnel, and external agencies for the benefit of students and the institution. Determines the most appropriate and needed areas of focus to benefit students and the institution. Seeks opportunities to become involved in those areas.

Liaison - 5%

Consult with faculty, staff, and off-campus constituents (i.e., parents, mental health professionals, physicians, etc.) about the developmental, career, and mental health needs of students. 

Other - 5% 

Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements
Master's Degree in Mental Health Discipline
Other Required Qualifications
Licensure in a mental health discipline in Georgia, or ability to obtain licensure within 3 months of hire (associate licensure acceptable)
Required Experience
At least one year of experience working in a mental health discipline

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Licensure as a psychologist in Georgia or ability to obtain licensure within one month of hire
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Doctorate in a Mental Health Discipline
Preferred Experience
Three or more years in a college counseling setting
