The Counseling & Development Specialist II, under general supervision, provides academic skills, academic counseling, and other services to students in individual and group formats.

Salary: $50,162 - $64,480

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in area relevant to position
  • Five years of work experience in teaching, counseling or related areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • Degree in teaching
  • Degree in counseling
  • Five years teaching experience
  • Texas Teaching Certificate
  • Work beyond normal hours and/or on weekends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Academic Support Student Counseling: Provides individual student consultation and mentoring regarding academic support for coursework

  • Student Evaluation: Provides individual evaluation and academic support for preparation for both classroom and national exams such as the USMLE Step 1 and Step 2

  • Risk Identification: Identifies and provides early intervention for at-risk students

  • Diagnostic Testing: Administers and interprets diagnostic testing to evaluate learning skills and learning needs, the provide appropriate support

  • Presentation of Academic Support Sessions: Provides students various workshops, resources, and other services depend on identified academic needs of the students

  • Development & Implementation of Academic Support Programs: Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of all School of Medicine academic support services for School of Medicine students, primarily on the BCS campus

  • Special Projects: Assists with special projects

  • Reporting: Assists in the development of reports and data entry. Performs other duties as assigned.
