Position Objective

Clover Park Technical College (CPTC) seeks a highly skilled and innovative instructor to build a supportive environment for incarcerated individuals in our Hair Design program at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) in Gig Harbor, Washington. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with incarcerated individuals to provide training and guidance as they prepare to enter the workforce post-release. The candidate will work with the program’s diverse student body, helping support the college’s work to cultivate an inclusive culture by valuing diversity, sustaining an environment of belonging, and promoting equitable opportunities for all. The successful candidate will work to eliminate equity gaps and help incarcerated individuals succeed in their chosen career path as they enter an increasingly diverse work environment.
Well-qualified applicants should be enthusiastic about continuously working to keep the curriculum relevant, researching and implementing the latest theories and practices in Cosmetology and Hair Design to best prepare students for the dynamic career that awaits them.
The successful candidate will work in on-site at WCCW, maintaining an effective student-offender/instructor ratio, promoting the program and the goals of higher education, actively participating in advisory activities, maintaining a relationship with the program advisory committee and Washington Correction Center for Women's staff as well as Department of Corrections officials; adhere to all Clover Park Technical College employee policies and procedures as well as those of Washington Corrections Center for Women along with maintaining a vision for incarcerated individuals re-entry into the community.
**This position is a contract position dependent on funding and contract renewal. 
This position is represented by the Clover Park Federation of Teachers, Local 3913, AFT/ AFT Washington.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Provide both classroom instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for the DOL Licensure Exam(s) and entry-level employment. 
Tasks include: 
• Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes.
 • Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools and supplies. 
• Create learning opportunities and instructional strategies for the course(s). 
• Provide oversight and support in the Realistic Training Enterprise (on-site student clinic). 
• Develop and complete student assessments. 
• Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students. 
• Model professionalism and employability skills. 
• Maintain accurate student and other records.
 • Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy and continuous evaluation of the learning environment.
 • Assess and provide student learning feedback. 
• Provide office hours for student advising 
• Submit student grades in a timely manner. 
• Maintain and submit student hours to DOL in a timely manner. 
• Other duties as assigned. 
Duty: Program promotion and licensure 
Tasks include:
 • Promote the program and the goals of technical education. 
• Recruit WCCW incarcerated individuals into the program who meet the qualifications set forth by both the Department of Licensing (DOL) and the              Department of Corrections (DOC). 
• Maintain instructional and clinic space to DOL standards.
 • Be responsive to DOL regarding on-site visits and site licensure requirements. 
• Work collaboratively with CPTC division office to provide input and support in maintaining the DOL site license at WCCW.
Duty: Program supplies and security 
Tasks include: 
• Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
 • Purchase, account for and secures all equipment and supplies used by the program in accordance with DOC security and safety concerns.
 • Account for the use of products (products are weighed after each use). 
• Completes and submits supply order for approval and delivery via WCCW facility warehouse. 
• Participate in annual and on-demand training provided by WCCW for those who work at the facility.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Current cosmetology license with an instructor's endorsement registered with the Department of Licensing for the state of Washington 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems (LMS) and other appropriate instructional technologies. 
  • Ability to pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • Completion of required Correctional Worker Core training provided by the Washington State Department of Corrections and pass NCIC security clearance
