CORE USA is a new educational initiative that is transforming Economics education in US colleges and high schools. Based in the Economics Department at Barnard College, Columbia University, short-term goals include crafting and rolling out a US edition of CORE Economics Education’s introductory curriculum for Economics (www.core.econ.org). In the longer-term, the aim is to radically improve learning outcomes for students studying economics and to increase diversity of background and diversity of career pursuits among students pursuing an Economics degree.

Reporting directly to the faculty director of CORE USA, the Director of Academic programs will be responsible for overseeing CORE’s content development in the US.

Position Summary Information

Essential Duties Summary

1. Collaborate with the Faculty Director and Director of Operations in setting our organizational vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs.
2. Work with the Faculty Director to set the agenda for the development and production of all of CORE USA’s academic content starting with the US edition of CORE’s introductory economics curriculum.
3. Manage and oversee all teams, content contributors, and partners involved during the content creation and publication processes. If certain criteria are met, the Director may also contribute content.
4. Ensure distinctiveness, consistency, and quality across all of our content.
5. Work side by side with our Director of Operations to ensure that our content is developed on time and on budget.
6. Collaborate with technology and operations colleagues to explore the latest pedagogical tools and techniques that align with CORE’s goals.
7. Collect feedback and user data.
8. Work with the Director of Operations to assess existing products and to develop strategies for growth and continued improvement of CORE USA’s educational content.
9. Engage and recruit US talent and leadership.
10. Manage part-time staff.

Required Qualification Summary

• An advanced degree in economics or education.
• Experience teaching in an undergraduate classroom.
• Prior experience developing educational content at the post-secondary or secondary level.
• Prior experience working with product management software, Excel, and Markdown.
