At UAGC, Core Faculty is a discipline expert who provides a positive learning environment in a specific academic program, emphasis, and/or discipline to facilitate and support student success. Core Faculty are committed to high quality teaching and learning through ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement. Faculty rank is determined at the time of hire by the Dean.

A Core Faculty position is available in the PhD Human Services and the PsyD program in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The hired Core Faculty member will be aligned to both programs. The successful candidate will have a strong content background in human services and general psychology (non-clinical), with a background in criminology and justice studies preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Teaching

Core Faculty should demonstrate exemplary teaching in their discipline. Teaching includes content delivery, student mentoring, assessment of student learning, and supervision of dissertation project work. All Core Faculty will carry a teaching load requirement, determined annually. Additionally, Core Faculty are responsible for:

  • Demonstrating awareness of and responding to the diverse needs of all students

  • Displaying a thorough knowledge of both the curriculum and the subject matter

  • Facilitating instructional materials and providing guidance and feedback to all students

  • Setting high expectations for student achievement and behavior

  • Collaborating with student-facing institutional personnel to enhance the student experience

  • Adhere to all faculty requirements as outlined in the University of Arizona, Global Campus Doctoral Faculty Course Requirements, which may be updated from time to time at the sole discretion of the university. Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching to the designated online course content and syllabus

  • Organizing and preparing course materials for facilitation

  • Providing timely and relevant feedback to students

  • Being accessible for direct student outreach

  • Responding to student inquiries by email and telephone in a timely manner

  • Using rubrics for grading where applicable

  • Demonstrating consistency and fairness in grading of assignments

  • Addressing plagiarism concerns according to university policy

  • Monitoring and coaching faculty as needed

  • Course development and revision tasks

  • Create and engage in professional development activities

  • Serve on committees as Chair and/or Committee Member

Student Success

  • Implement retention, persistence, graduation, and student success initiatives as guided by CAS and University leadership

  • Contribute to student success through regular interaction with student enrollment and academic advisors and other University student support staff

  • Support or lead program development activities; course development, review and revision; and assessment of student learning outcomes and program excellence

  • Support CAS leadership in evaluating teaching efficacy of associate faculty members within the PhD HS and PsyD programs and engaging in associated faculty performance coaching

  • Collaborate within the University community to ensure a positive overall experience for all students, including collaboration the following: Office of Access and Wellness, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, the Library and Writing Center, and Student Services

Service

  • Contribute to and participate on University-wide and CAS committees

  • Collaborate with CAS and University teams to develop and implement new initiatives

  • Provide support for accreditation and licensure efforts to ensure courses meet accreditation, career, and discipline goals

  • Assist with program review activities, including gathering data, writing reports, creating action plans for program enhancement

  • Engage in community and student development activities involving disciplinary expertise, such as student organizations and campus-wide leadership initiatives

  • Represent CAS in University meetings and forums

Professional Development and Scholarship

  • Engage in faculty scholarship and development activities related to the University’s primary focus as a teaching institution, which may include discovery, integration, application, and/or teaching

  • Support faculty forums, colloquia, and other professional development activities within CAS aimed at both internal and external audiences

  • Participate in faculty communities of practice and community spaces

  • Participate in external discipline specific conferences and professional communities

  • Enhance teaching effectiveness skills by attending seminars, webinars, workshops, and classes offered through both internal and external programming

Other Duties

  • Participate in meetings (on site and virtual) as directed

  • Maintain regular work hours coordinated with supervisor

  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

  • Residence and eligibility to work in the United States

  • Doctoral degree in field appropriate to the position being sought

  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching adult learners at the university level

  • Work-related experience that complements the candidate’s doctoral degree and the position(s) being sought

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven organizational skills with attention to detail and strong time management capabilities

  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule that requires travel and occasionally work on evenings and weekends

  • Proficiency in common Internet tools, as well as intermediate level skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Credentials in fields appropriate to the position being sought

  • 5 or more years of online college teaching experience, preferably at the doctoral level

  • Experience teaching non-traditional adult students

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in classroom management and instructional practices

  • Experience serving on Dissertation or other doctoral research committees as Chair, Committee Member or Methodologist

  • Experience serving in academic administration or a position requiring oversight of other faculty

  • Demonstrated experience using APA 7th edition style guidelines

Education

  • A doctoral degree is required for all doctoral teaching positions

  • Demonstrated experience using APA 7th edition style guidelines

  • All education associated with the degree requirement for this position must have been conferred by a regionally accredited or approved nationally accredited institution

  • All candidates must provide proof of degree qualifications (official transcripts) upon request
