Position Summary

Copywriter

Overview:

Copy matters —a lot. As one of the few business schools ever ranked number one by Bloomberg Businessweek, Duke’s Fuqua School of Business has the platform to make the world better through business. That means recruiting talented students from all over the world who share our ethos, and doing it in a highly competitive landscape against legacy brand peers. The secret to our success? We believe deeply in the transformative business education Fuqua delivers. For us, a copywriter’s job isn’t just writing—but deeply understanding our customers and delivering information that is useful to our audience while reinforcing our mission, values and community.

We are looking for a copywriter who gets feisty about the proper use of an Oxford Comma—but is equally passionate about our brand voice. Someone who believes great copy delivers value, not a sales pitch— building trust by delivering helpful, inspirational and needed information at the right time. The successful candidate will also understand the consumer psychology of each unique audience and tailor content appropriately in a wide variety of platforms. This is particularly important given Fuqua’s large portfolio of degree and non-degree programs: A student considering a graduate degree while still in undergrad is not persuaded in the same way as a CEO who has decided to upskill in an area like business analytics.

The copywriter will join our dynamic team of specialists in earned, owned, paid and shared media—including PR operators, digital strategists, developers, brand wizards and a dedicated market intelligence team. We operate in a fast-paced environment with a global footprint and our team is innovative and resourceful. We believe in the work we do—and the people we do it with.

This position is a member of the Global Marketing team and reports to the Assistant Dean for Media Strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writes copy in multiple forms including email, landing pages, and paid social media campaigns
  • Helps co-create and executes marketing campaigns for targeted audience groups informed by a deep understanding of the prospective student mindset/persona for each degree or non-degree program
  • Uses intelligence gathered daily by market intelligence team to inform copy
  • Works closely with members of the Digital team to ensure alignment between content and function as copy is being developed - working within digital templates, sourcing proper images, aligning on character count, RFI forms, etc.
  • Works closely with members of the Campaigns team to ensure deadlines are being met and projects are staying on task
  • Leverages editorial content developed by other team members to be used in marketing campaigns
  • Collaborates to ensure SEO goals are being met in copy, while not letting SEO dictate the copy
  • Effectively works with different teams across the school including Admissions, the Career Management Center, and the Dean’s Office when writing copy
  • Other duties as they emerge in an ever-evolving communications and marketing landscape

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
