Position Summary
Position serves as a liaison between Ophthalmology providers and clinical support super-users. This includes the primary responsibility of determining the needs and requirements for clinical applications in the ambulatory healthcare setting that will ensure efficient workflow for providers and clinical staff. Provider Liaison will work with providers to optimize the usage of clinical systems through education and training and provide support in accordance with organizational goals. Responsibilities will also include initial and ongoing training and support to providers. This position requires knowledge of the workflows and processes common to the Ophthalmology setting. Provide expert and creative solutions to user requirements and solutions. The position will require working independently in completing project tasks and executing those tasks as part of the clinical systems implementation. In addition, this position requires the ability to independently interact with providers and demonstrate critical thinking and follow through when developing solutions to be identified.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the usage of clinical information systems.
  • Discovers and defines the need for new clinical systems, such as interface engines, PACS and other technologies related to Ophthalmology.
  • Efficiency in clinical workflows with the utilization of Epic and dictation platforms for providers.
  • Supports the integration between providers and IT regarding development and translation of business needs, using the appropriate reporting tools and technology.
  • Ensures that new or modified clinical information systems maintain patient confidentiality and privacy, in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Trains, educates and instructs providers on features, operation, and usage of software systems.
  • Develops and implements auditing and review processes to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
  • Monitors system performance and reports to IT when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur. Makes recommendations, as needed.
  • Provides training and application support in Epic Ambulatory Module to providers and clinical support super-users.
  • Functions as first-level response for Epic Ambulatory issues by communicating with providers and clinical support super-users to understand issues and develop solutions.
  • Serves in a technical support capacity by documenting, troubleshooting, and resolving application issues reported within Epic Ambulatory and escalates issues as appropriate to the WU Epic team.
  • Responsible for identifying patterns of issues within Ophthalmology and working internally with providers and administration for ways to proactively correct them.
  • Serves in a project management role responsible for defining, documenting, developing, and testing integration solutions for the department.
  • Troubleshoots, documents, and corrects Ophthalmology Epic Ambulatory issues.
  • Assists with writing and reviewing Ophthalmology Epic Ambulatory procedures and workflows.
  • Remains flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing requirements.
  • Assists and supports Ophthalmology providers and clinical support super-users with the use of Epic mobile applications Ophthalmology.
  • Provides complete documentation of all tasks and projects.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures while developing systems and flows within Ophthalmology
  • Responsible for monitoring Meaningful Use reports and process improvement to ensure compliance set forth by CMS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in EMR and physician office setting.
  • Performance Improvement experience and training in Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Minimum of five years of direct work experience in ambulatory setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, coding (ICD-9, CPT-4 and HCPCS), legal aspects and medical record functions.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment, multiple computer operating systems and spreadsheets.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, displaying the ability to interact with others using tact and discretion.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, or other Health Related field.

Salary Range
$60,800.00 - $94,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
