Job Summary


The Coordinator, Student Care Services addresses the needs of students who are experiencing difficulties related to mental health, physical health and/or psycho-social adjustment, personal and family emergencies, financial challenges or who need general assistance. The Coordinator, Student Care Services provides guidance for students to navigate campus, connecting students to the abundance of available resources while prioritizing student well-being and academic success.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a resource on student social/emotional development regarding student interaction with other students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provides care services to students including formulating intervention plans, facilitating communication, and follow up.
  • Maintains relationships with staff and other agencies to provide care coordination with needed services and support through advocacy and referrals.
  • Maintains and disseminates accurate directory of community resources available to students to campus community.
  • Oversees withdrawal requests for extenuating circumstances process.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs to promote Student Care Services and educate the campus community.
  • Maintains accurate case records. Provides monthly reports and assists in the preparation of the Annual Report.
  • Interprets University policy regarding students and recommends necessary updates.
  • Provides input in the development of departmental goals, strategies, operations and procedures.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Professional full-time experience in student affairs working directly with students in advising, college level TRIO programs, career development or assistance programs.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
  • Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of professional full-time experience in case management or student care services with experience in crisis management.
  • Experience with student records management such as Banner, Maxient or similar software.
  • Experience in case management or assistance programs for college-level students.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems and experience with referrals, documentation and active follow-up.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, statutes, regulations, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of student support and intervention theory and best practices.
  • Knowledge of mental health and wellness issues in college student population.
  • Knowledge of assessment, risk management and violence prevention strategies and approaches and how to apply them in a university setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs/services.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports.

  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
