Coordinator

Job Description

The SolarSPELL initiative at ASU is currently seeking a motivated Student Engagement Coordinator to join our high-performing team. The Student Engagement Coordinator will routinely collaborate with other SolarSPELL staff to identify project priority areas for which to recruit students. Within this role, the Student Engagement Coordinator will recruit, plan, organize, and carry out programs for ASU students from the 17 different colleges within ASU.  Students are assigned to work on all aspects of the Solar Powered Educational Learning Library (SolarSPELL) initiative, both at ASU and in field locations. This position requires high-level, detail-oriented management and coordination in a fast-paced, innovative environment focused on student recruitment and success. This position is funded by grant and gift funds and is contingent on the continuation of those funds.

The SolarSPELL initiative’s mission is to increase educational opportunities around the world by providing relevant, localized, digital educational content, through a solar-powered offline digital library, to resource-constrained locations that may lack electricity, Internet connectivity, and/or traditional libraries. By partnering and working with education-focused organizations globally, we are able to localize the content on the libraries and provide training and ongoing support for SolarSPELL users, many of whom are using a library, or digital technology, for the first time.

ASU-SolarSPELL has a Global Strategic Partnership with Peace Corps, our largest implementation partner. With digital libraries spanning education, health, agriculture, and community development, we work with Peace Corps posts globally, across sectors, as well as with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) who are current ASU students, as well as with RPCVs in the Phoenix area and across the US. In-field experience with Peace Corps and/or other international development projects or partners is highly desired. Peace Corps and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.

The SolarSPELL initiative at ASU has the attitude of a start-up social enterprise operating within the New American University (ASU). As part of the no. 1 ranked most innovative university in the US, a SolarSPELL team member possesses a hands-on, “roll-up-the-sleeves” mentality and thrives in a “do what it takes” culture. They must enjoy the challenge of juggling multiple priorities and donning multiple hats while working in a team-oriented, strategic, collaborative, and inventive manner.
