Summary of Position
The Music, Theatre, and Dance Division (MTD) at Plymouth State University invites candidates to apply for a non-tenure track, full-time benefited position as Assistant Professor of Practice and Coordinator of Vocal Studies beginning in August, 2024. The teaching load is 30 to 32 credit hours per year. The candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate students and provide service to the university.
Part of the Visual and Performing Arts Academic Unit at Plymouth State, MTD offers the BS degree in Music Education and BA degrees in Music, Theatre Arts, and Digital Music Production and Entrepreneurship. The Division also offers minors in Music and Theatre Arts, as well as coursework that can be applied toward Interdisciplinary Studies majors. In addition to its academic degrees, the Division sponsors several groups that provide students from across campus with opportunities to perform.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
• Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy
• minimum of 5 years’ experience in private studio voice instruction
• experience in classroom teaching
• supervisory experience
• experience in teaching a variety of vocal styles (Classical/Opera, Musical Theatre, Pop/Commercial, etc.)
• engagement with the wider field of vocal pedagogy through participation in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), etc.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
· 10+ years’ experience in private studio voice instruction, with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience at the college/university level
· Additional non-studio college teaching experience
· DMA in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy and/or significant post-Masters training/professional development, particularly in musical theatre and/or other non-Classical vocal styles
· Extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire in multiple genres
· Experience serving as music director of musical theatre productions
· Expertise in vocal diction, particularly in foreign languages
· Experience in curricular design for music, music education, and theatre majors, and in the creation of voice-related coursework for general education student audiences
· Experience in recruitment for college/university music and theatre programs
· Significant engagement with regional/national NATS, including regular attendance at meetings and conferences, leadership positions, etc.
· Significant engagement with issues of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in the field
