Coordinator of Undergraduate Recruitment - Herbert College of Agriculture (Middle or West TN) - 23000002IA

Coordinator for Undergraduate Recruitment
Herbert College of Agriculture
Regionally located in either Middle or West Tennessee

The Herbert College of Agriculture seeks a dynamic individual interested in recruiting a diverse pool of undergraduate students for the College.  The successful applicant will work closely with the Dean’s staff focused on advising, careers, alumni, employers, student life and diversity, and recruiting personnel in other colleges and the University Admissions office.

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is the state’s flagship campus and enrolls over 31,000 students.  Nestled near the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains, Knoxville has been identified as one of the Top 100 places to live and one of the best places for businesses and careers.  The College has the benefit of also being part of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA), which is particularly devoted to the University’s land grant mission through its AgResearch and UT Extension units, both of which provide historically strong links with businesses in and out of the state.   The College has approximately 1500 undergraduate students enrolled in 10 majors across seven departments, plus nearly 300 graduate students enrolled across eight departments.  The Coordinator position will be housed in the Dean’s office along with specialists in diversity, advising, communications, employer relations, and recruiting.  The position will be regionally located in either Middle or West Tennessee, depending on the preference of the selected candidate. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position with commensurate benefits.

Recruit undergraduate students into the College by developing and using methods to achieve the College’s recruitment strategies.  Develop, lead, and attend off-campus recruitment activities and events such as college fairs, high school visits, field days, etc.  Coordinate the College’s recruitment efforts with non-college entities such as FFA, 4-H, UT Extension, and community partners.  Work with College departments to coordinate their off-campus recruiting activities.  Develop and maintain effective relationships with high school counselors and agriculture teachers that lead to desired recruitment.

Develop a strategy and implement approaches for recruiting students in middle and west Tennessee.  Some examples may include developing educational partnerships, programming, and recruitment pipelines with college-prep programs, extension agents, area high schools, and other community partners.

Develop presentations, and work with communications specialists inside and outside of the College for production of recruitment materials including hard copy and electronic (e.g., website, social media) messaging that results in desirable levels of a diverse student body.  Engage in a collaborative effort with the Herbert Student Services Team to produce content for updating the College webpage and other accounts.  Gather and use information from appropriate sources, including campus and social media, to assess and refine the strategic recruiting plan and improve its effectiveness.  Develop relationships with UTIA Marketing and Communications staff to help develop branded opportunities that establish a consistent feel across all of Herbert's efforts.

Assist with College events and initiatives, such as Graduation, Career Fair, Living Learning Community, Awards Reception, Scholarship Banquet, Open House, and Orientation sessions and other Dean’s Office support as needed.

Participate in professional development opportunities on and off campus, attend conferences, and actively participate in professional organizations, such as the Collegiate Information and Visitor Services Association (CIVSA) and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (SACRAO).  Perform special projects as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean, act as a representative of Herbert Dean’s Office on institute or university committees, and other duties as assigned.
