JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Dean of Social Work, the Coordinator of the Social Work NYC and Hauppauge Extension Centers coordinates the administration of the Social Work programs at those centers. As a member of the School of Social Work’s administrative leadership team, the coordinator carries out program recruitment, academic administration, student professional advisement, and consults and coordinates with the SSW Administration to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff and to engage meaningfully with the social service and higher educational communities. Engaging alumni and community service agencies in the activities of the SSW center is expected to support the academic mission of the school. Center Coordinator is expected to interface with the University infrastructure as other University academic programs are conducted at the NYC Center and the Hauppauge Center.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - 85,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Dean of Social Work

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Program Development and Recruitment:

  • Collaborate with Dean and the Director of Outreach, Enrollment and Professional Advisement to create a recruitment system to support enrollment management efforts.
  • Work with the Director of Outreach, Enrollment and Professional Advisement and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, University, School and Program staff to engage and support applicants and accepted students with a “personal touch.
  • Attend recruitment events in conjunction with University admissions and in collaboration with SSW Director of Outreach, Enrollment and Professional Advisement and program directors. In the future this may include SSW doctoral programs as well.
  • Participate in the recruitment of adjunct faculty. (Program directors will supervise their respective faculty).
  • Serve as champion for diversifying, expanding and growing programs to provide an equitable, non-racist, and accessible learning environment to the extended community of learners and the workforce of local areas.
  • Oversight of Academic Programs:

  • Under the supervision of the Dean of Social Work, reinforce established academic affairs policies of the university and SSW.
  • Reinforce established practicum education policies in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Practicum Education.
  • Plan and implement orientation for new students and continuing students.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to plan course schedules.
  • Plan center wide programs such as film and speaker series in collaboration with center staff and faculty and Director of the Social Work Extension Centers.
  • Work with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to implement the established licensing prep program.
  • Provide professional advisement to students.
  • Guide students to Student Affairs Coordinators for academic advisement of students.
  • Alumni Engagement:

  • Maintain and nurture relationships with previous Social Work graduates (or alumni) to build a strong professional network.
  • Spearhead alumni activities and services to include organizing events such as reunions and fundraisers, liaising with vendors and suppliers, arranging meetings, and handling calls and correspondence.
  • Collaborate with other University staff (i.e., Social Work Office of Continuing and Professional Education, University Alumni Relations, etc.) on programs which engage alumni through multiple channels such as academic program and geographic location combined.
  • Develop, sustain, and strengthen alumni chapters which focus on establishing and maintaining connections through academic/degree programs.
  • Community Engagement:

  • Reach out to social service agencies to promote degree programs.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with feeder programs including student advisors, department chairs, club advisors, etc.
  • Attend relevant events in Center areas (local NASW committee, clinical social work committee, etc.).
  • School of Social Work meetings:

  • Attend all SSW Faculty Meetings.
  • Attend meetings with the Dean of Social Work and Coordinator of Hudson Valley Extension Center.
  • Attend Academic Affairs Meeting.
  • Attend all assigned committee meetings.
  • Supervision:

  • Participate in individual supervision with the Dean.
  • Provide regular supervision as assigned.
  • Administrative Operations:

  • Interface with Center and University administrative offices.
  • Participate in Center staff meetings.
  • Liaison with University’s Site Director and coordinate administrative activities, e.g., classroom space, instructional technology, writing center accessibility, etc.
  • Consult with the Director AUSSW Extension Centers regarding administrative operations.
  • Collaborate with Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development to implement continuing education programs within the center’s social service community.
  • Provide task supervision for professional staff as necessary.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Strong identification with the purposes and values of the social work profession.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of social work education and social work practice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong management skills including the ability to make sound, independent decisions and utilize supervision effectively.
  • Computer competencies, e.g., Word, Excel, e-mail.
  • Effective time management skills and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends (some alumni or community events and course or faculty commitments).
  • Center Coordinator position is an in-person position. The Center Coordinator will develop an onsite schedule to support both sites in collaboration with the Dean.
  • EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS:

  • MSW from a CSWE accredited school of social work is required.
  • Minimum of five years post master’s practice, supervisory, and management experience is required.
  • LMSW or LCSW is preferred.
  • Experience in college or university setting is preferred.
