Job Description:

Description of Duties:

The Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services is responsible for reviewing and evaluating diagnostic documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations. The Coordinator will have a good understanding of applicable legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to guide determination of disability and reasonable accommodations. With accommodations in place, the Coordinator will provide student service in two distinct ways 1) consult with and work collaboratively alongside of faculty regarding the students' instructional needs and 2) design and execute one-on-one coaching sessions to provide ongoing support for students with disabilities.

As the Coordinator of Student Accessibility Services, this staff member will design and implement programming for current and prospective students including but not limited to executive functioning workshops, assistive technology sessions, transition programming and orientations.  They will serve as a liaison, advocate, and essential partner in a student's educational journey.

This person will play an integral role in the campus' culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.  The person in this position should have experience with and be comfortable among diverse populations.  Outreach activities, programs, and services should reflect their ability to work effectively with various groups.

  • Coordinates development/application of academic strategies and accommodations to promote successful integration of students with disabilities within the college learning environment. Reviews/evaluates diagnostic information and documentation of disabilities; determines eligibility for protection under Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), Section 504, and other applicable legislation; Determines reasonable accommodation or course substitution; consults with students, faculty, administrators, and other campus personnel regarding students' instructional needs, status of disability, and reasonable accommodations; Designs strategic learning plans and provides one-on-one strategy instruction for students with disabilities; provides ongoing support and advocacy.
  • Coordinates programming for students with various disabilities by collaborating with community agencies and cross-campus partners. Identifies, establishes, and evaluates program services; Conducts workshops for students, parents, local high schools, and community agencies on SUNY Poly programs and services; Conducts outreach activities; Compiles statistical reports on program activities/services; Participates in orientation sessions, instant admit days, and other campus events for incoming students; Collaborate with 3rd party and community agencies for continuity of services including Working Solutions, ACCES-VR, and psychological evaluation centers.
  • Performs administrative tasks associated with preserving department activities, effectiveness, and productivity Maintains records and confidentiality of records relating to students with learning disabilities; Assist with evaluation, selection, and implementation of adaptive software, assistive technologies, alternate format materials, and auxiliary aids; Participates in college, division, and department meetings, events and trainings as recommended and by Director; Participates in professional development opportunities, college committees, work groups and task forces, and other professional organizations as recommended by Director; Supports the Director with professional development training for faculty and staff on disability awareness and issues impacting students with disabilities.
  • Support the broader department, including the Testing Center, during traffic peaks 
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

The primary location for this position is in Utica, with possible travel to other operating locations

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Services, or related field from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and three years of relevant experience, preferably in higher education; working knowledge of current state and federal laws related to ADA and Section 504, familiarity with reasonable accommodations, assistive technologies and alternate media services for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level
  • or Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Services, or related field from a College or University accredited by the US department of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization and 1 year of experience, preferably in higher education; working knowledge of current state and federal laws related to ADA and Section 504, familiarity with reasonable accommodations, assistive technologies and alternate media services for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level
