Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Coordinator of Sports Science for Football is responsible for supporting the football team’s applied sports science athlete assessments relating to training, fitness, and prevention. These include Catapult, Polar, Sparta Science, Tendo Unites, Perch Velocity Training, and additional systems.
This position would manage student-athlete performance monitoring and tracking technologies, create team reports, and identify performance enhancement solutions with various technologies (i.e., catapult, force plates,tendo, etc.); serve as the liaison between Maryland Football and Catapult. Create actionable data-driven solutions that maximize value for individual and team outcomes; understand, visualize, and communicate findings to strength & conditioning coaches, sport coaches, athletic trainers, and sports performance staff; provide daily feedback on athlete outcomes to assist in strength and conditioning & other programming; provide technology support for all performance technology in collaboration with Maryland Athletics IT department andtheir policies; attend sports performance team meetings and football team meetings as requested; collaborate with campus Exercise and Sports Science faculty and coordinate the Sports Data Analytics internship student program and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, exercise physiology, engineering, computer science, biometrics, or related field.
Experience:
  • At least two (2) years experience working with Division I sports; experience working in Division I Football.
  • Experience with software and technologies for tracking player movement, physiological outcomes, and athletic workloads.

Knowledge, skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
  • Ability to learn athlete performance monitoring software programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong procedural writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated high standards of confidentiality.

Other:
This position requires the ability to work a non-traditional schedule, including nights and weekends, depending on practice and game times.
Preferences:
Preferences:
  • Master’s degree in a sports science-related field of study.
  • Experience working with Catapult GPS and/or Polar system monitoring.
  • Experience with R, Matlab, Python, Azure, or Power BI.
  • Experience with database systems and data preparation.
  • Background in artificial intelligence, medical, health, fitness, and athletic performance data.
  • Experience with techniques such as classical inference. generalized linear models, and multivariate methods.
  • Experience with data visualization tools.
Additional Certifications:
Preferred:
Certification in Strength and Conditioning and/or Athletic Training is preferred.
