Salary Information Salary is dependent on experience with a minimum of $50.837.00.

The Music Library supports the College of Music and the UNT community in providing outstanding collections of books about music, music journals, printed music, sound recordings from historic through contemporary formats, and music-related electronic databases. Special collections are a particular strength, emphasizing not only the many genres classified under Western art music and jazz, but also popular music and world music. Our dedicated full-time staff members and student assistants are available to provide access services and research assistance to patrons from UNT and beyond.

Position Overview
The Rapid Cataloging Coordinator coordinates all aspects of the Music Library’s Rapid Cataloging Project including hiring, training, and supervision of a student workforce, and budget planning and allocation. This person establishes and refines workflows in consultation with the Head, Music Technical Services Unit and the Research Collections Library Inventory Supervisor and develops procedures to expedite outputs and increase productivity and efficiency. The person in this role also performs rapid cataloging and may perform copy and/or original cataloging for rare items identified for transfer to Music Special Collections.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. 
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively. Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Music, or a substantial formal music education.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Western European music and of music reference sources.
  • Bibliographic knowledge of one or more Western European languages in addition to English; preferably German, French, or Italian.
  • Previous experience working in a library, preferably in music.
  • Previous experience working with the MARC21 encoding system and III’s Sierra.
  • Familiarity with RDA as pertains to description of music materials.
  • Demonstrated skills managing complex projects.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Job Duties

Coordinate all aspects of the Music Rapid Cataloging Project; Develop and implement initiatives and set project priorities in collaboration with the Head of the Music Library and the Head, Music Technical Services Unit; Create, continuously refine, and maintain all handbooks and training materials related to the Music Rapid Cataloging Project; Cultivate and maintain relationships with all stakeholders and as point of contact with them.

Hire, train, and supervise a team of student assistants; Conduct regular performance evaluations; Assess budgetary needs for the Music Rapid Cataloging Project student workforce and manage the corresponding budget.

Develop and implement workflows and procedures in consultation with the Head, Music Technical Services Unit and the Research Collections Library Inventory Supervisor; Collaborate with the Music Special Collections Librarian to identify items appropriate for transfer to Music Special Collections; Manage logistics of transporting materials between the Music Library and the Research Collections Library as needed.

Develop and maintain mastery of the Music Rapid Cataloging process; Support ongoing efforts to address the backlog by contributing rapid catalog records as well as copy and original records as appropriate.
