The Music Library supports the College of Music and the UNT community in providing outstanding collections of books about music, music journals, printed music, sound recordings from historic through contemporary formats, and music-related electronic databases. Special collections are a particular strength, emphasizing not only the many genres classified under Western art music and jazz, but also popular music and world music. Our dedicated full-time staff members and student assistants are available to provide access services and research assistance to patrons from UNT and beyond.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. Position Overview
This position is responsible for all technical and logistical aspects of acquisitions for the Music Library, and coordinates all projects and workflows related to receiving, binding, and end-processing of commercially acquired music resources. Through high-level project planning and implementation, administrative and technical services, and specialized knowledge and expertise, this person ensures that materials in the Music Library become available to users within a consistent and predictable timeframe. This position initiates, recommends, and implements goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the Music Library, often applying broad independent judgment and authority, and plays a vital role in the development, implementation, and management of binding and student budget resources. This position develops and refines training for all aspects of music receiving, binding, and processing and supervises student assistants and a Graduate Services Assistant. The person in this position may assist with other special projects for the Music Library and participates in staffing the Music Services Desk and Sandborn Music Reading Room as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Ability to use a variety of complex computer applications.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing. 
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently and lead project teams effectively. Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, including substantial experience with music and music formats.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Western European music and of music reference sources.
  • Previous experience working in a library, preferably in music.
  • Experience with preparing tangible music collections for circulation, including hands-on experience with binding music materials.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Job Duties


o
Acquisitions: Coordinate receipt of financial gifts, archival music collections, and circulating music materials; Manage logistics of large gift shipments; Work with Research Collections Library warehouse manager on storage and transportation solutions.
o
Processing: Establish, maintain, and monitor multiple workflows related to pre-and post-processing for all commercial music materials and all library serials; Develop internal and external processes and policies, ensure quality control, manage the commercial binding budget, and provide budget projections related to all bindery services.
o
Supervision: Hire, train and supervise student assistants and one Graduate Student Assistant in music processing and binding; Ensure all manuals and onboarding materials are updated and maintained.
o
Student budget: Develop department-wide student budget, allocating resources and managing spending.
o
Project planning: Search, choose, and arrange for purchase and delivery of services, supplies, materials, and equipment; Assist department members with project and event planning as needed and coordinate financial activities of department events; Cultivate and maintain relationships with appropriate vendors and service providers and act as point of contact for them; Work with library administrative staff to make purchases from outside vendors; Oversee income, expense, and endowment accounts using COGNOS to monitor transactions and balances.
