Job Description:

Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, seeks a Coordinator of Internships and Career Programming who will be responsible for a wide array of activities in support of the Rockefeller College Office of Career Development.  The coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for the internship process for students from the College's three academic units (the School of Criminal Justice and the Departments of Political Science and Public Administration and Policy), which includes providing support to students during the internship search process and management of the internship placement processes and facilitation of the required internship courses.  The coordinator will also assist students with graduate and professional school applications and plan and develop career programming. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the internship placement processes for all three units, including site selection and all application, preparation, and evaluation activities. 
  • Document internship experiences via Handshake. 
  • Support undergraduate and graduate students during the internship search process by providing cover letter and resume review, mock interviews, interview preparation, and counseling students on internship opportunities. 
  • Manage and independently teach internship courses related to required undergraduate and graduate internships. 
  • Assist students with graduate and professional school applications. 
  • Work with the Director of Internships and Career Services to plan and facilitate career programming. 
  • Represent the College's career office at various events, including presentations, for students, employers, and alumni.
  • Participate in undergraduate and graduate recruitment activities as requested by the dean and director of graduate recruitment and admissions.
  • Participate in College commencement and orientation activities; participate in alumni-student events as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities including, but not limited to, the NASPAA Career Professionals Conference.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a college or university career/student services office or graduate level coursework in higher education administration, student affairs, educational policy or a closely related field.
  • Experience working with college students. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Zoom.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of internship processes in public policy, public affairs, political science, international affairs, and/or criminal justice job markets.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and leading career programming.
  • Knowledge of career coaching techniques and career decision making.
  • Experience with career management software (e.g. Handshake).


Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Staff Assistant, SL2; $47,500-49,000.
