JOB SUMMARY:

Coordinate student advisement and class registration services; assist at Open House and Admission events. Coordinate outreach to non-returns in collaboration with program faculty.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,000 - 52,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Student Success and Administrative Affairs

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Maintain competence in use of SLATE; monitor and report on conversion and timing of conversion from Inquiries to Applicants.
  • Advise new, and currently enrolled students in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education as needed; serve as primary advisor for students during summer session and intersession.
  • Provide advisement services at open houses, registration, enrollment service events and/or upon student request.
  • Provide individualized and group advisement services to Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior STEP students.
  • Assist with advisement and registration services for the Manhattan Center as needed.
  • Undertake transcript evaluation and complete appropriate documentation for graduate applicants. Evaluate and prepare all requests for transfer credits, course waivers and program changes for all new and currently enrolled students in the Department; actively monitor student records for accuracy of waivers and course substitutions and troubleshoot with One Stop as needed.
  • Assist with new applicant review processes including review of application materials, review of transcripts, and monitoring of applicant file review process as needed and as directed by the Director of Advisement; assist with outreach to pending/accepted students as needed to ensure their timely class registration.
  • Meet with and discuss program options for possible candidates seeking a degree program within the School of Education.
  • Make positive use of technology to connect with current and non-returning students and provide advisement and course registration services.
  • Ensure advisement sheets and programs of study are up to date and assist with creation of new advisement sheets as new programs are developed.
  • Stay current on curriculum changes and requirements to academic programs; stay current on changes to teacher certification requirements so as to advise students where to retrieve the most up-to-date information.
  • Assist Director of Student Success and Administrative Affairs with projects as requested ie: CAEP data requests, participate in department meetings as requested by the Chair.
  • Coordinate with faculty advisors, certification officer, field experience staff, assessment office, and/or academic affairs’ committee members as needed to ensure accuracy of students’ academic records. Assist the Office of Student Success with grade checks and student teaching checkpoint clearances.
  • Assist in implementing graduate student orientation in Fall and Spring to ensure new and current students have positive experience of graduate student life.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
  • REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of teacher education programs.
  • Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills; Word, Excel and Email; data base management in SLATE, CLASS or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of current NYSTCE (Teacher Certification Exams).
  • EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Two years of job-related experience is required; for example in a public school setting or in higher education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in marketing and recruitment in higher education.
