Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Oral Health Education, performs a variety of duties in support of international students and scholars on the San Francisco and Sacramento campuses.

Essential Functions
  • Provide general information to students, faculty, and staff on ISS matters; create e-forms and letters; update and maintain International Students & Scholars (ISS) portion of Academic Affairs webpage.

  • Update and maintain federal SEVIS database for incoming, enrolled, and graduating international students, including quarterly registration of F-1 students; monitor SEVIS for alerts and errors and ensure appropriate action in a timely manner.

  • Serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for all dental students and residents on the San Francisco and Sacramento campuses including monthly visits to both sites in accordance with the federal requirement. Assist F-1 students with Certification of Finances SSN, driver license, and advise F-1 students on how to achieve and maintain F-1 status and alternative academic options. Assist with resolution of federal immigration issues.

  • Act as Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) for San Francisco and Sacramento campus visitor Q-1) program; advise visitors on how to achieve and maintain J-1 status, including preparation of successful visa applications, funding verification, employment authorization, and other documents required to live and work in the U.S.; interface with state and federal agencies as needed; interpret and explain U.S. immigration and labor regulations; coordinate English proficiency evaluation.

  • Coordinate process related to H-1B applications with outside counsel and in accordance with federal regulations.

  • Maintain F,J and H-1B files to include Department of Labor (DOL) and internal school files in accordance with federal regulations; conduct annual F-1 and J-1 orientation and OPT workshop for graduating F-1 students as required by law; provide post-graduation support of ISS: maintenance if SEVIS records; assistance with OPT processes (record EAD card information, generate new OPT I-20, respond to USCIS requests for additional information, report) OPT employer; and answer questions on immigration related issues.

  • Oversee and monitor international on-campus workers and off-campus Optional Practical Training (OPT) and CPT (Curricular Practical Training) and those on OPT STEM extensions; update and maintain work and personal address information; update and monitor for H-1B Cap-Gap.

  • Provide general operations support for international students and scholars at the San Francisco campus, including answering phones, receiving/ directing visitors, responding to student, faculty and staff inquiries; maintaining spreadsheets, word-processing, proofreading, copying.

  • Attend professional conferences as required to remain current in the field; review, update, and communicate visa policies and procedures at San Francisco and Sacramento campuses.

  • Perform all other duties as directed by the Associate Dean for Oral Health Education, including administrative and registrarial functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Database administration
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Internet search techniques.
  • Principles of business letter and report writing.

Experience:
  • Minimum three years of administrative support.

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Distinguishing Characteristics
  • Incumbent must be a citizen of the United States or lawful permanent resident in order to become a Designated School Official (DSO).


Working Conditions:

  • Position is full-time, 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.
  • Occasional weekend or evening assignments.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • SEVIS helpful.
  • BANNER helpful.
  • Federal immigration law and regulations helpful.
  • Office 365, SharePoint, and document repository experience

Experience:
  • Experience in an educational institution in student services/admissions highly desirable.
  • SEVIS experience helpful.


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Other:

  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range 30.88 per hour
