Coordinator, Institutional Review Board – Health Sciences Research

The University of Virginia is currently seeking a Coordinator to join the Institutional Review Board – Health Sciences Research (IRB-HSR) Office.  This position will provide general administrative support for the IRB-HSR office and coordinate activities promoting the ethical conduct of research and protection of participants in the University’s clinical trials and non-clinical health research programs.  This position is eligible to be 100% remote.

 

The successful candidate must be an effective communicator with strong attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate recordkeeping while maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information. 

Anticipated duties include: 

 

  • Plan and coordinate business management or administrative and support services.

  • Conduct or manage administrative activities related to fiscal management, human resources, procurement, and other administrative activities.

  • Apply knowledge of programs, operations, and administrative policies and procedures.

  • Provide administrative support to IRB-HSR Director & Associate Directors as needed.

  • Coordinate travel arrangements and procure supplies or other approved purchases for the IRB-HSR.

  • Maintain frequent contact with management and staff, UVA research community, and IRB Board Members, to plan and/or coordinate activities.

  • Process study receipts, study closures, and triage incoming IRB submissions.

  • Process single IRB (sIRB) submissions and assist with reliance agreements.

  • Assist with IRB Board meeting coordination, agenda, and minutes.

  • Serve as a specialist responsible for gathering facts, analyzing findings, reaching logical conclusions, recommending solutions, and coordinating confidential or highly sensitive projects.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree

  • Experience: 3 years; Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

 

Anticipated Hiring Range: $25 - $30 hourly, dependent on education and qualifications; this is a full-time non-exempt position UVA benefits including:

  • 22 days of paid time off, increasing with service; 13+ paid holidays each year, in addition to paid time off; Parental and Community Service Leave.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Experience with enterprise/organizational finance and procurement processes and systems.

  • Experience working in an academic or research organization.

  • Experience supporting a compliance, integrity or ethics office, program, or initiative.

 

Highly Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with conducting or supporting human subjects research (e.g., IRB office, clinical research office, or study team).

  • Experience with UVA financial systems, policies and procedures.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Experience developing or editing online (website) content.

 

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
