Job Summary
The Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program is a joint initiative of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education in collaboration with Big Win Philanthropy and with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the GE Foundation. The Program is designed to stimulate transformative vision, enhance leadership effectiveness and political acumen, and develop planning and execution capacity among education, health, and finance ministers from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It supports them to pursue ambitious human development goals, particularly where these leaders represent geographies that are experiencing large growth in their child and adolescent populations.
Position Description
The Senior Program and Research Coordinator for the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program will provide research and programmatic support to the Program as needed to ensure the effective organization and presentation of all aspects for the Program and its activities. These duties will include:
- Research and develop case studies and conduct other research required to inform the Ministerial Forum curricula and in support of the Forum resource Ministers, faculty and other contributors.
- Develop country-specific background data (scorecards) as well as more general information on countries participating in the Program.
- Maintain and help further develop the Program’s Human Development Dashboard.
- Update and maintain the Program’s database tracking Ministers participating in the Ministerial Program, including their continuing role in and/or outside of government.
- Support, promote and generally oversee use and further development of the Program’s Virtual Implementation Platform (VIP).
- Track upcoming elections and outcomes, as well as general political developments across target countries. Update the Program’s invitation database with current minister information and contact details.
- Support administration of the annual Tessa Jowell Fellowship for Doctoral Research including the recruitment and performance of Fellows.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for the annual Ministerial Forums and all other Program activities as needed. This includes meeting and escorting participating Ministers on arrival from the airport and throughout the Forum; providing technical support to presenters; responding to participants’ questions and other needs during the Forum; helping ensure smooth running of event catering, on-time arrival of ground transport and all other logistics.
- Serve as a liaison between Program and government ministers and former heads of states.
- Travel to Africa to monitor and document progress of Ministers participating in the Program.
- Assist in processing Concur and reimbursement payments to participants.
- Provide oversight and guidance to part-time student research assistants.
- Provide French language support as needed.
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term appointment of 1 year from date of hire with the possibility of extension. This is a hybrid position and this position will be based in Boston, MA. Additional detail pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, California (exempt staff only), Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington).
PLEASE NOTE: International travel, specifically to Africa will be required.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience is required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:
- Masters Degree in public health or related field
- 3+ years of experience in program management and research related projects; experience working internationally and with high-level officials from other countries; in depth knowledge of Africa
- Facility with Microsoft Office Suite; strong analytical skills; strong research skills and data management; fluent in the French language
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; attention to detail; interpersonal skills; customer service focused; work independently and as part of a team
