The Academic Advancement Center (AAC) is committed to providing a transformative undergraduate experience and supporting historically minoritized students from orientation through graduation. This position is a part of the AAC and works directly with Undocumented Student Services and First-Generation University Initiative. The AAC is made up of five different programs: Undocumented Student Services, First-Generation University Initiative, SSS STEM, SSS Classic, and McNair Scholars.
Undocumented Student Services is a student fee funded program in the AAC, which is part of the larger university wide Student Success Initiatives at CSU that serves the undocumented immigrant community. We provide guidance and support through a holistic, multicultural and solution-focused approach that delivers individualized service for each student. We aim to be a centralized resource for students, while simultaneously offering support via our extensive campus referral network.
First-Generation University Initiative is part of the larger university wide Student Success Initiatives at CSU that serves as a centralized initiative that collaborates across departments and colleges to develop strategies, brainstorm outreach opportunities, and provide support for all our first-generation college students.
TRIO Student Support Services STEM (SSS STEM) Program is a federally grant-funded U.S. Department of Education program serving first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities; who are pursuing majors within Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM SSS is dedicated to supporting the college transition of students pursuing STEM fields, creating comprehensive support services for STEM students throughout their time at CSU, and preparing students to pursue STEM careers. Students engage in curricular and co-curricular learning, as well as enhance their STEM leadership, research, and career skills, while forming lifelong friendships.
TRIO Student Support Services Classic (SSS Classic) Program is a federally grant-funded U.S. Department of Education program serving first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities. Classic SSS is dedicated to supporting the college transition of students pursuing any field of study, creating comprehensive support services for students throughout their time at CSU, and preparing students for graduate and career opportunities. Students engage in curricular and co-curricular learning, as well as enhance their leadership, research, and career and graduate school skills, while forming lifelong friendships. Peer Mentors, faculty and staff contribute to creating support programs and services.
The CSU McNair Scholars Program is a federally grant-funded U.S. Department of Education program serving students who low-income, first-generation, and communities who have been historically minoritized by institutions. The goal of McNair is to increase the attainment of a Ph.D. for enrolled participants, by intentional designing opportunities for research and scholarly activities, summer research internships, seminars, faculty mentorship, and other activities designed to prepare participants for doctoral studies.
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Undocumented Student Services and First-Generation University Initiative is responsible for developing, managing, and day-to-day oversight of Undocumented Student Services, which includes the following: providing comprehensive support for undocumented immigrant community, leading and assessing programmatic elements (including first-generation programs), being a centralized point of contact, and providing wrap around student support in the following areas: college transition, academic success, financial education, career development, graduate school preparation, and community connection.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in program development and evaluation for small-or large-scale programming designed to increase student engagement
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting immigrant communities in a higher education setting
  • Professional or personal experience similar to those served (first generation and/or undocumented college students).
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling or related field.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in education, student personnel, human services, or related field or equivalent of two years of graduate level work experience through assistantships or internships.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with a variety of constituents including students, faculty, staff, and community

  • Design, develop and coordinate concepts and ideas for programmatic efforts; which includes collaborating with Undocumented United (UDU) student organization
  • Set up, allocate, and manage programming budget. Oversee logistics and devise creative solutions to accomplish program goals.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and analysis of assessment to enhance effectiveness and efficacy of programmatic elements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee marketing efforts for Immigrant Student Services and First-Generation Initiative, which include the following: maintaining websites, brochures, and social media. Ensure consistency of publications with university branding. Serve as the primary contact for newsletter

  • Serve as UDU student organization staff advisor
  • Lead trainings and education efforts to inform the CSU community on the experiences and needs of immigrant communities.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships to sustain a network of support for immigrant communities, which includes serving a central resource.
