Position Summary
This position coordinates administrative and academic functions of the Anthropology graduate program supporting 35 faculty and roughly 55 students.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Anthropology Graduate Program Facilitation

  • Serve as liaison with Office of Graduate Studies (OGS).
  • Oversee degree advancement milestones for department and OGS.
  • Coordinate continuing funding processes.
  • Ensure entry of funding (both internal and external) is entered properly and communicated to the Business Manager.
  • File electronic forms related to admissions, funding, degree advancement, and thesis defenses.
  • Attend & contribute to Faculty Committee of 3 meetings (graduate student issues).
  • Attend faculty meetings when requested by chair, note policy changes.
  • Revise Graduate Student Handbook biannually.
  • Create monthly Graduate Student News Digest.
  • Collect and organize records on graduate and post-graduate students.
  • Submit reports and surveys as required by the graduate school and outside agencies.
  • Keep records on teaching requirement.
  • Assign Mentored Teaching Assignments.
  • Assign graduate student office space.
  • Coordinate orientation, meetings, and departmental community endeavors.
  • Assist with recruiting activities and meet with prospective students.
  • Submit reports and collect data as required by the Director of Graduate Studies and Department Chair.
  • Foster and support graduate student community.
  • Audit graduate students for graduation.
  • Faculty of record for continuing student audit grades (LGS).
  • Editor for graduate Bulletin.

Facilitation of Graduate Program Admissions

  • Listed as point of contact for Anthropology Graduate Program in the SLATE system.
  • Fields questions from prospective graduate students.
  • Manage applications as they are submitted in the SLATE system.
  • Assists faculty in tutorials and access to the SLATE system.
  • Organize completed applications and assign to the faculty in the relevant subfields.
  • Assist faculty in gathering any additional requested documents/data.
  • Process admissions decisions (rejection, waitlist, admitted) in the SLATE system.
  • Assist in organizing visits for prospective graduate students (discuss budget with Business Manager).

School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) and Summer School

  • Serve as liaison for Anthropology program in CAPS and summer school programing.
  • Solicit courses and assign instructors.

Department Administration

  • Serves as backup to departmental administrative coordinators.
  • Assist in planning of departmental events.
  • Works with departmental staff to plan Anthropology graduation ceremony and reception.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in an academic environment, specifically with supporting a graduate program.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, experience with WUCRSL and SIS.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with faculty and staff, and commitment to work and problem solve with students.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written. Creative thinker and planner.


Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification and three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range
$20.76 - $32.21 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
