Department The Mashouf Wellness Center is a student-driven Wellness Center guiding development through transformative activities, creating a sense of belonging within our community, and being a key partner in integrating health and wellness across the University.
Appointment Type This is a one-year probationary position.
Time Base Full-Time (FTE 1.0)
Work Schedule Monday through Friday; from 9:00am to 6:00pm
Anticipated Hiring Range $4,600 to $4,900 per month ($55,200 to $58,800 annually)
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, the Coordinator for Accessible & Inclusive Recreation oversees and supervises inclusive and accessible recreation programming for the new, state of the art, 118,700 square-foot, Mashouf Wellness Center (MWC), which opened in 2017. The incumbent leads the department in programming activities that are transformative and promote belonging within the San Francisco State University (SFSU) community. The incumbent sets policies and practices for ensuring the facilities and programs are inclusive and accessible for all people. Areas of oversight include, but are not limited to, program development, promotions, program management and supervision, and program risk management. The incumbent works directly with a variety of student employees and may work with interns. The incumbent is involved in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible programs, best practices, and philosophies. The incumbent collaborates with: the Disability Programs and Resource Center; Recreation, Parks and Tourism Department; Department of Kinesiology; Intercollegiate Athletics; Environmental, Health & Safety; Facilities Services; Health Promotion & Wellness; Risk Management; Student Life (Residential Life, Student Activities & Events New Student Programs, etc.); Student Health Center; SF State Sustainability; University Communications; University Police Department; and other units as appropriate. The incumbent provides core services in special event support in working on signature special events or working in collaboration and support of other entities in putting together one-time events or tournaments. The incumbent supports the creative planning process, encouraging each event to become a celebration, and may use special events to attract participation in non-traditional programming. The incumbent provides lead work direction for approximately 20-30 student employees, including student managers who assist with: planning, managing special events, and inclusive recreation programs. All student employees enforce program policies and respond to incidents and injuries. The incumbent must have a strong understanding of student development theory and practices to keep a high standard of student leadership, development, and engagement within their program areas. The MWC is student-driven in its operations, and it is expected that students will be involved in decision-making alongside the incumbent, and the delivery of programs and services throughout the department. The ability for this person to advise, mentor, and provide the development of student leadership is key. The incumbent must strategically align work and outcomes in a way that supports the mission of the SF State campus, Student Affairs & Enrollment Management (SAEM) cabinet area, and Campus Recreation/Mashouf Wellness Center, and is in line with NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, and other higher education and industry best practices.

Minimum Qualifications Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Environmental/Physical/Special Duties take place mostly in an office setting, with primary locations at the Mashouf Wellness Center. Ability to: succeed in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; work variable nights, weekends and/or holidays, on-campus or off-site, indoors and outdoors, depending upon work conditions and demands, including an occasional overnight stay; use computers and other communication tools for extended periods of time; and competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and campus community.
