Description

The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a full time Supervisor of Contracts & Grants. You would work under the general direction of the Semel Chief Administrative Office (CAO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and OES Manager. In concert with other research administrative staff, you would bear primary responsibility for overseeing / supervising one of two post award administration teams for intra/extramurally funded research award for Departmental Principal Investigators (PIs). Pay Range: $ 64,800.00 – $137,600.00 annually

Qualifications

Required: * Bachelor’s Degree * 5+ years: Progressive experience in financial management roles * Demonstrated experience as an effective team leader and supervisor. * Strong knowledge of financial and accounting concepts, including basic framework of the Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow. * High level of ethics, integrity, discretion and confidentiality. – Required • Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment, judgment and decision-making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and effective verbal and written communication skills. * Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate information in a timely, professional manner and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, external collaborators and administration and to work as a member of a team. * Ability to set priorities and complete ongoing tasks with competing deadlines, with frequent interruptions, to meet the programmatic and financial needs of PIs and the department, while complying with University and funding agency policies and regulations. * Analytical skills to assess financial information, define problems, formulate logical solutions, develop alternative solutions, make recommendations, and initiate corrective ALL Required actions. * Close attention to detail to ensure accuracy in a fast-paced, fluctuating workload environment. * Organization skills to create and maintain administrative and financial files effectively as well as independently balance the various tasks to ensure deadlines are met. * Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft suite software, especially Excel and PowerPoint, to perform daily tasks efficiently and accurately. * Expert knowledge of federal, state and non-profit sponsor regulations, policies, requirements, procedures and areas of interest. (this position requires expert knowledge of clinical trials and human subjects research related regulations, policies, and requirements.) * Expertise in the areas of fiscal management, human/animal subject compliance, intellectual property, conflict of interest, procurement, property management, environmental health and safety, and human resources (for academic and staff position) Preferred: * MBA In Finance or Administration – Strongly Preferred * 1-2 years: Experience managing finance in an academic department/unit/division. * Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize job functions to meet deadlines and ensure smooth workflow, and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with multiple proposal submission systems. * Experience preparing, managing and projecting budgets. * Mathematical skills for the preparation of complex calculations and forecasts and to identify and resolve complicated financial scenarios. * Knowledge of and experience working with a variety of external sponsors: federal and state sponsors, private foundations, industry sponsors, etc. * Working knowledge of various financial concepts, research administration policies and procedures, and contract and grant funding agency guidelines.
