What we want

SRS is seeking a Contract Negotiator I, who will negotiate agreements and assist with post-award contract administration. They will write and review agreements, negotiate with sponsors/subcontractors, and negotiate terms and conditions of unfunded agreements such as non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, collaboration agreements, and data transfer agreements to ensure compliance with the Texas A&M University System policies, Federal and State laws and regulations, and sponsor guidelines.  The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, proofreading and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Proofreading skills and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database software. Ability to multi-task, work independently and work cooperatively with others.


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Experience in university setting, business or legal operations, or research experience. Experience in sponsored research projects management or contract negotiation.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships with people of diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Contract Negotiation-Under supervision reviews and negotiates, with minimum supervision and assistance, terms and conditions of unfunded agreements with sponsors/collaborators to ensure compliance with applicable policies, Federal and State laws and regulations as well as sponsor guidelines. Works with senior negotiators or supervisor as needed on non-standard terms and conditions. Writes and reviews agreements and negotiates with sponsors/collaborators regarding the terms and conditions of unfunded agreements, to include but not limited to publications rights, intellectual property rights, export control, confidentiality, and records retention.


  • Contract Compliance Review-Works closely with more senior negotiators and direct supervisor to ensure that all agreements are in compliance with the following: all laws (state and federal), policies and guidelines, Texas A&M University System, and sponsor guidelines. Works collaboratively, under minimal supervision, with Office of Technology Commercialization, Office of General Counsel, TAMUS Risk and Compliance, and members’ offices.


  • Documentation-Maintains all negotiations-related documentation in negotiations database. Ensures that all records are updated regularly and that documentation represents the current status of each negotiation. Ensures that all negotiations are processed in a timely fashion and that all parties to the negotiation are kept apprised of the status.

  • Contract Modifications-Under supervision, prepares correspondence and completes requests to sponsors to modify existing agreements. Performs other duties as assigned.
