Job Summary

The Content Support Assistant is a temporary position, designed to support the Caltech Alumni Association (CAA) team, under the supervision of the Director, Alumni Content and Value Delivery.

The candidate will support Alumni Content and Value Delivery team to publish CAA’s various content outlets, including the website, Alumni Portal, live events, and the CASE award-winning Techer magazine, working on CAA digital, print, and social media projects. 

Maintaining the quality and excellence of original content across outlets is imperative. CAA’s content vehicles are essential for connecting alumni to campus as well as serving to connect constituents with the CAA Board of Directors in order to conduct the necessary business of CAA. Content that engages constituents, creates community, and shows measurable results is the primary goal.

The successful candidate will be a collaborator and a team player who is also able to work independently as a self-starter. Candidate will organize and follow processes to secure content and approval for communications. Candidate will demonstrate both technical and communications skills, and the ability to embrace and thrive within a fast-paced environment where creativity, initiative, nimbleness, flexibility, professionalism, and strong project management skills are vital.

Job Duties

The Content Support Assistant is able to be an extension of the CAA team, providing services including:

  • Assist Director in managing content needs and deadlines.
  • Research and write content for delivery across channels (Techer, website, web-based platforms, events).
  • Develop and deliver content ideas.
  • Monitor and assist in interactions with freelance staff.
  • Acquire art assets as needed.
  • Provide hosting and technical support during events.
  • Monitor and manage social media.
  • Techer digital and print content.
  • Research and development of content.
  • AAR partnership projects support.
  • Email content for regular communications.
  • General support for marketing/communications projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree or equivalent experience in communications or a related field.
  • Strong project management and consultative skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects, and prioritize based on business impact.
  • Ability to organize/prioritize work and meet deadlines within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
  • Fluency with web-based communication and management tools essential (i.e., MailChimp, iModules, Webflow, Eventbrite, Adobe Illustrator, Zoom, Sprout Social, Asana, etc.).
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools.
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team; adept at dealing with ambiguity and a changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative to seek and propose solutions with a positive attitude and commitment to continual improvement.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion of varying views, including the ability to interface with people at all levels within the organization.
  • Capacity to convey passion for and impact of Caltech and Caltech alumni.
  • Ability to travel and to work occasionally on weekends and evenings.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher-education or non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of Caltech.
  • Curiosity and interest in STEM and its global as well as societal impact.
  • Experience with digital storytelling.
  • Skilled in web publishing and web distribution of video/audio content..
