Essential Job Duties
The NC State Consumer and Community Horticulture program is recruiting a program manager to develop and manage the Therapeutic Horticulture program. As the program manager you will be responsible for recruiting and managing an advisory team of stakeholders, conducting a needs assessment, identifying and implementing therapeutic horticulture programs, evaluating impacts, reporting, and fund development.
In this role you will be responsible for marketing, tracking students, evaluating, managing finances, reporting, presenting at conferences, and writing articles. You will partner with the University of North Carolina Therapeutic Horticulture team to manage and co-teach the four non-credit distance education programs in therapeutic horticulture. Further more you will manage course registration through the NC State REPORTER system and teach classes using Moodle.
Duties And Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
  • Conduct a needs assessment, including surveying Extension Agents, Extension Master Gardener volunteers, therapeutic horticulture practitioners, former students, and other Extension therapeutic horticulture programs across the country.
  • Develop, lead, evaluate, and report on the NC State Therapeutic Horticulture programs.
  • Manage Moodle courses, including advertising, registration, technology, leading the 2-university team, co-teaching, financial management, evaluating, reporting, and writing articles.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to the program.

Opportunities, Expectations And Qualifications
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the NC State Therapeutic Horticulture program and online courses to continue their evolution into a flagship Extension program.
  • Generate adequate cost-recovery funds to support their salary and programmatic needs. They will also develop funding to create and grow an NC State endowment for therapeutic horticulture.
  • Will have extensive knowledge and experience in horticulture, therapeutic horticulture, program management, online teaching, and course management. They will have strong written and oral communication, computer, and team management skills.
Other Responsibilities
As an active member of the NC State Department of Horticultural Science you will have the opportunity to participate in training opportunities to remain current in research based information on consumer horticulture, volunteer management and related technology. 
Other duties as required/assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
  • Proven experience developing and facilitating therapeutic horticulture programs
  • Ability to communicate in a way that facilitates mutual respect, shared vision and goals
  • Experienced working effectively with students, volunteers, staff and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years experience developing and facilitating therapeutic horticulture programs
  • Experience teaching and managing online college-level courses in a university setting.
  • Experience with the Moodle teaching platform.
  • Training and experience working with diverse populations that have physical, cognitive, social, and/or psychological needs that may require accommodation."
  • Advanced degree(s) and certifications(s) that aid in recruiting students, including a RegisteredHorticultural Therapist or Therapeutic Horticulture Certificate.
