UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Maintenance & Construction (M&C) is responsible for general maintenance, repair, and renovations of all University of Washington (UW) main campus facilities including building interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as well as logistics, moving, and disposal of surplus equipment and furniture.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Construction Coordinator, Drafter (Maintenance & Construction Coordinator A) to be responsible for supporting the Construction group with developing and managing construction drawings and documentation which are used to develop estimates and provide as built details on scope, spec, and dimensions for shop direct and project work. The drafter pulls drawings from records, develops plans, processes redlines, prepares plans for estimating walks and client approvals, and final construction documents. Is responsible for documentation closeout and updating records. The position also supports tasking and scheduling as needed. The position will manage engineering and architectural contractors for Construction.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Pull drawing records for projects and shop direct work as requested by shop leads, superintendents, and project managers.
• Work with Leads and Project Managers to add scope and specs to construction drawings.
• Coordinate contractors to provide stamped drawings and permits for work as needed.
• Assist with developing tasking and scheduling for projects.
• Attend client walks and Estimating walks for projects work.
• Research drawings records, manage drawing record updates, update WO’s and SharePoint folders with current drawing revisions.
• Manage redlined drawings, update drawings for Change orders and revisions, manage as built drawings, work with, and partner with Campus Engineering to provide support for projects and shop direct work.
• Assist with project design phase, manage printed folders for estimating job walks.
• Work in coordination with the Project Manager to complete appropriate close out documentation and project review.
• Drive vehicles to attend meetings, walk job sites or transport equipment and personnel.

Requirements include:

• Five years of work experience in physical plant operations. College training with a major in business administration, mechanical engineering or an allied discipline may be substituted, year for year, for up to four years of the work experience. 

Additional Requirements include:

• A demonstrated understanding of construction means, and methods associated with the renovation and construction of commercial and institutional buildings.
• Demonstrated experience in managing multi-trade work in a broad range of project types within a construction environment.
• Demonstrated experience with, and knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, environmental agency requirements, and life safety standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be able to regularly navigate construction sites.
• While usual hours fall within standard business hours, work may be required during hours beyond standard business hours including evening and weekends.
• Position requires flexibility to deal with emergencies, meetings, or other scheduled work that may fall outside normal work hours.
• Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job.
• Must participate in medical screening/monitoring (such as TB screening and proof of measles inoculation) required for work assignments in locations, including but not limited to, nonhuman primate areas, the Animal Research and Care Facility, and the University of Washington Medical Center.
• Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
