JOB DUTIES
Description
Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. In this Connectomics Research Assistant (SRA 1) position you will:
- Assist in animal surgery to brain splice histological data for analyses.
- Research into connectomics and neuroimaging using animals as models.
- Ensure strains are separated and neuroimaging splices are appropriate per experiment.
- Maintain animal colony, including weekly tracking of subjects, breeding, and disposal.
- Maintain data collection logs, including database management and tracking of surgical specimens.
- Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols.
- Collect field and/or laboratory measurements and data.
- Compute results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques.
- Prepare chemical solutions for experimental use.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
- Maintain and organize laboratory supplies.

Salary range: $25.75 – $30.71 Hourly
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
Required:
- Previous experience in Connectomics.
- Broad theoretical and practical knowledge of standard organic, physical and analytical chemical methods.
- Technical expertise and working knowledge of neuroanatomy, biochemistry and physiology.
- Technical histological skills and functional knowledge.
- Knowledge of neurosurgery and stereotactic ICV implantation.
- Basic functional understanding of the research concerns related to the effects of perinatal ethanol exposure on certain neuroendoctrine, neuroimmune, behavioral and neurochemical indices of central nervous system development and function.
- Effective organizational skills in wet laboratory administration.
- Demonstrated proficiency using a microcomputer for word processing, data analysis and record keeping.
