Job Description

Concert Manager

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $61,650 to $77,050; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Boston College seeks a Concert Manager for its Music Department. This new full-time position is responsible for the management, promotion, and scheduling of all aspects of the Music Department's professional concert series, all faculty concerts, all student concerts sponsored by the Department on campus, and other occasional concerts and events. Duties includes concert planning, production of program materials, and related logistical and financial matters. The Concert Manager represents the Music Department in communications with musicians, artist management agencies and outside concert promoters in all matters, including negotiating contracts, planning program content and superintending logistical arrangements for concert production and audio/visual recording. The Concert Manager schedules, promotes and manages Department ensembles in collaboration with the directors of the department's instrumental and vocal programs. The Concert Manager initiates and promotes interdepartmental collaborations for concerts, creates and administers the Music Department's concert budget, writes grant applications, oversees student assistants and supervises a part-time Concert Manager. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Planning and coordinating all aspects of the approximately 40 concerts presented by the Music Department annually.
  • Administration of all logistic aspects of the rehearsals and concerts of the BC Symphony Orchestra and close liaison with the Boston College Chorale and the Boston College Band program.
  • Supervision of all aspects of publicity and event listing: website, social media, posters, layout and printing of programs, commissioning of program notes, collection of performer biographies, communication with all individuals involved in providing this information, the maintenance of information sharing platforms.
  • On-site preparation prior for concert performances and post-concert clean-up.
  • Supervises transport and parking arrangements for visiting artists, oversees the tuning, maintenance, and moving of musical instruments, ensures access to such locked instruments as pianos and organs, liaises with ITS for audio and event technology, and, where necessary, the hiring or purchase of technology and equipment not available through ITS.
  • Coordinates all aspect of room layout, stage preparation, lighting, heating, rehearsal time, musical instrument and technical equipment set-up.
  • Instructs and supervises part-time Concert Manager and student assistants.
  • Management of the purchase, storage, and maintenance of musical instruments.
  • Management and archiving of documentation concerning every aspect of the concert program.
  • Writes grant applications.
  • Attends meetings of Arts Council, Music Department, ArtsFest 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Arts Administration, or equivalent musical training.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in concert management, concert promotion, and creation of program materials.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work within a highly energetic college environment.
  • Adept at time management and task prioritization.
