What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Computing Systems Professional 2/ Computing Systems Professional 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Experience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Computing Systems Professional 2/3 for the XIT Classified Systems Services (XIT-CSS) group. XIT-CSS consists of approximately 85 professionals, technicians, and students. XIT division is responsible for the desktop and server support for computing environments at the Laboratory. The division is organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for these computing environments.

Computing Systems Professional 2 ($77,300- $ 126,000)

The successful candidate will work on a team supporting institutional and programmatic customers at locations across the laboratory, performing a wide variety of system administration activities for classified servers and workstations, including but not limited to:

  • Support of Microsoft Windows servers, VMware virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), point to point and diskless architectures such as Citrix based clients in classified environments

  • Support of storage area networks (SAN), RAID storage configurations and storage appliances like NetApp and Dell EMC Isilon

  • Develop plans for installing, configuring, hardening, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows workstations, servers, virtual machine and boot images

  • Planning, designing, documenting and implementing solutions to support customer workstation requirements

  • Resolving customer support issues and fulfilling requests through remote desktop and on-site field support

  • Automating tasks using programming and scripting

  • Communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Mentoring and training fellow team members in basic and advanced system administration

  • Practicing Information Architecture processes and standards

Computing Systems Professional 3 ($94,100- $155,700)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Computing Systems Professional 3 will be required to:

  • Support a large network including specific experience in central configuration management for networks of computers in heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Manage diskless infrastructures, including troubleshooting, backup solutions and recovery.

  • Configure and manage Storage Area Networks (SAN) and backup solutions.

  • Manage technical projects to fulfill customer technical needs.

  • Manage authentication services such as LDAP.

  • Research emerging technologies, new industry trends, hardware and software tools and solutions.

  • Proactively resolve vulnerabilities for Windows operating systems.

  • Mentor and train fellow team members in Windows system administration

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Wide-ranging experience administering Windows operating systems and/or Virtual environments and related hardware.

  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving complex operating system, hardware and application issues in a heterogeneous computing environment.

  • Knowledge and experience in Active Directory infrastructure management and system configuration management methodologies and tools including scripting tools such as Windows PowerShell.

  • Experience with vulnerability remediation and system patching and vulnerability remediation.

  • Experience configuring large storage appliances such as NetApp or Dell EMC Isilon.

Additional Job Requirements forComputing Systems Professional 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Extensive knowledge of Windows operating systems and/or Virtual environments and related hardware.

  • Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Computer Security and/or Networking Protocols in both unclassified and classified environments.

  • Experience with vulnerability remediation including utilization of cyber-related tools for auditing, compliance verification, vulnerability testing, system patching and continuous monitoring.

  • Demonstrated success in project management including specifying, budgeting, scheduling, testing and implementing server and workstation solutions.

Training/Certifications

Applicable advanced vendor certification (Microsoft, VMware, NetApp, CompTIA A+, CCNA)

Education/Experience atComputing Systems Professional 2 level :

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience atComputing Systems Professional 3 level :

Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, applicable advanced vendor and/or professional certification is desirable.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.

  • Experience securing Operating Systems using NIST and STIG cyber security frameworks.

  • Experience administering UNIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstations and servers.

  • Knowledge of emerging computing technologies.

  • Experience mentoring IT team members in Windows system administration.
