Job Overview

Responsible for the support and maintenance of organizational computer systems, software, and peripherals. This can include installing and deploying, maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and resolving issues with laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, Windows and Apple systems, printers and other peripherals, off-the-shelf software applications, and network connectivity issues with both wired and wireless connected end-point systems.


Essential Functions
  • Provide end-user computer hardware, OS support for Windows and Apple workstations, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other peripherals. Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot issues with OS, computer hardware, peripherals, and network connectivity. Knowledge of OS user and group permissions, CLI command and applications, and printer, hardware and OS maintenance and optimization.
  • Provide user support for off-the-shelf software application programs, such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, Adobe Products and others, including installing, configuring, modifying, and troubleshooting applications.
  • Manage trouble tickets and incident queues in IT incident management ticketing system, while prioritizing work based on user impact, current workload, and projects. Ability to work in a responsive and timely manner to ensure timely resolutions to end-user issues.  
  • Knowledge of end-point networking concepts, protocols, and tools, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Group Policy, Client and Server Architecture, ethernet and wireless networking.
  • Professional attitude focused on customer satisfaction, with the ability to work in a culturally and socially diverse work environment, while maintaining a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards end-users under circumstances where end-users may be upset or frustrated.
  • Ability to work, communicate, and coordinate effectively as a team member.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail. Able to document technical issues and resolutions for future reference and tailor communication to end-users to suit end-user’s technical abilities.

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, Apple or other IT certifications.
  • Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in the Linux operating system.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Internet of Things devices, such as Raspberry Pi sensors, off the shelf NAS units, and similar equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with Audio-Visual equipment, including projector systems, A/V switching equipment, microphone, room cameras, speakers, and other related A/V equipment.
  • May write scripts and other automated routines to meet user needs.
  • Knowledge of MDM end-point management systems Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and JAMF.
  • Knowledge of Trellix end-point virus malware end-point management products.  
  • All work conducted on-site at the University of Cincinnati's (UC) West Campus, with some occasional work possible on East Campus or other UC sites.  Not a work from home position.
  • Position often requires much walking around campus from building to building, site to site, during all four seasons, including in inclement weather conditions, and in the heat and cold.
  • Must have the ability to lift, move, and handle equipment and boxes weighing up to 50 lbs.
