Information Technology (IT) invites applications for a Computer Systems Analyst II. You will be responsible for helping to maintain the custom code that is used by the Banner ERP systems maintained by the University of Montana (UM) as well as support UM’s affiliated campuses and the other community colleges that UM supports. In this position you will provide programmatic solutions to departments while primarily using SQL and PL/SQL to create solutions via Automic (UC4).

Responsibilities:

  • Creating Feeds to 3rd party applications that need a data file fed for updates
  • Creating in-house processes to assist departments at the UM to complete work in a timely fashion
  • Troubleshoot and work on issues that exist in implemented processes on our systems
  • Assists users with data issues and help address flaws in the system that may need to be adjusted
  • Helps customize 3rd party solutions for use by departments via products like Evisions (FormFusion)
  • Helps resolve issues with the help of the team in the Ellucian Managed Cloud
  • Accept, manage, and document all new projects, issues, and changes via the ticketing system
  • Help departments to create and utilize a testing plan before the sign off of moves to production
  • Creates custom workflows for baseline processes that can be scheduled via UC4
  • Uphold standards, confidentiality, and security practices of the University of Montana as a data steward

This position is designed for a Career Ladder and may progress to a Computer Systems Analyst III as higher-level knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are attained.


Required Skills
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming with one or more languages
  • Knowledge and understanding of Apache Tomcat
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational database and associated toolset (SQL or PL/SQL)
  • Experience working with repositories like GIT
  • Familiarity with an IDE, I.E. Eclipse, IntelliJ, Groovy Grails Tool Suite
  • Knowledge of working with Amazon Web Services (AWS), S3 buckets, and other related Cloud provider technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in software design, development methodologies and analysis techniques
  • Proficiency with Linux operating systems and relevant OS utilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in software design, development methodologies and analysis techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of designing user interfaces and writing reports using an industry standard report writing tool, such as Tableau or an equivalent
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, time-management, and organizational skills to complete tasks with critical deadlines while paying attention to detail
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive business relationships with others
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; professional customer service skills with the ability to share complex information with others

Minimum Required Experience
  • Associate’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or related technical field and two (2) years of experience working with ERP systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS or Computer Science or related technical field
  • Three (3) years of related work experience
  • Experience in working with a Student, Human Resources, or Finance information system of a higher education institution
  • Knowledge/Experience working with Ellucian Banner and Ellucian Experience
  • Knowledge/Experience working Web Services, API’s, and other system integration techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge of working with Amazon Web Services (AWS), S3 buckets, and other related Cloud provider technologies
  • Familiarity with an Application Development tool (IDE) like Eclipse or an equivalent Experience working with Java
  • Knowledge and understanding of Apache Tomcat
  • Experience with Tableau dashboards and analytics

Information Technology (IT) reports to the President of The University of Montana (UM). IT at UM is a campus service organization that provides computing and communication resources in support of the instructional, research, administrative, and public service activities of UM. IT maintains and operates complex information systems to support the University's administrative activities and offers a variety of technology support services to assist the University in using the resources and services that IT is responsible for providing.

This Computer System Analyst II is under UM IT’s Enterprise Technologies unit and reports to the Manager of Enterprise Information Systems who reports to the Deputy CIO, Enterprise & Strategic Technology who reports to the Chief Information Officer.

Work Schedule:          Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week),

     Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Salary:                          $26.558/hr

Union Affiliation:         FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period:  Six months minimum
