Job Overview

Join the University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering and Applied Science as a Computer Systems Administrator I and become an integral part of our Digital Technology Services team. In this dynamic role, you will support cutting-edge educational programs, pioneering research, and comprehensive outreach initiatives. Essential Functions
  • Oversee the administration of backend systems within the DTS CEAS IT unit, including Microsoft Active Directory, SCCM, and Software License Servers.
  • Manage server operations involving hardware and software installations, configuration, scripting, and the administration of Windows operating systems and Hypervisor clusters.
  • Handle backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and system resilience.
  • Serve as the primary software license administrator, managing college-wide software and license servers.
  • Oversee and supervise computing labs and student services within the CEAS college, including lab image creation, imaging, deployments, and plotter printing management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to system hardware, operating systems, and software applications; monitor system performance to maintain security and protect against system vulnerabilities; and ensure software license compliance.
  • Provide advanced support for computing needs across faculty and staff offices and research labs, supporting multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices.
  • Assist with IT asset management and provide backup support for Network Storage Administration, Student Print Services, and Security Camera Systems.
  • Collaborate with DTS and DTS CEAS IT teams to align technology support with academic teaching and research needs; communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders; Serve on committees and project teams.
  • Maintain flexible work hours to support users outside of standard times.
  • Engage in research projects subject to ITAR regulations sponsored by the United States Government, and requires US citizenship or Green Card.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related computing field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience; five years preferred.
  • Experience in administering Windows server and desktop technologies, Active Directory, and SCCM.
  • Extensive experience supporting hardware and software technologies in organizations with over 50 employees.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Experience with VMware Horizon VDI.
  • Previous engineering experience, particularly with engineering software.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapting to varying team dynamics.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where constructive feedback is common.
