Description
The Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System is a bi-national network of researchers who track fish movements to (1) understand fish behavior in relation to Great Lakes ecology, and (2) provide information useful to fish managers in their decision making. We are seeking an individual to develop and support computer code for data processing, analysis and visualization. https://glatos.glos.us/ Duties will include, but are not limited to supporting the needs of research scientists by providing consultation services, demonstration code, or software tools (e.g., R packages, web applications) as needed for data processing, analysis, or visualization; maintaining and extending the open-source R package ‘glatos’ as a member of the development team; managing issues posted to the project gitlab page; manage releases, including CRAN submission; review and respond to issues posted on the project gitlab page; fixing computer code bugs; developing new features including source code, documentation (help files and vignettes), and unit tests; supporting the needs of the GLATOS data system (database and online data portal) by providing consultation services, demonstration code, or software tools (web-based and embedded shiny applications) in coordination with the GLATOS Data Manager and Technical Coordinator; contributing to establishing technical expertise in the areas of data processing, analysis, and visualization; developing workshop curriculum and delivering training to a wide variety of audiences, including GLATOS members and affiliates, in partnership with research scientists and the Ocean Tracking Network; and developing and maintaining analytical and visualization information products.
Qualifications
Must have a strong working knowledge of applied computer science and project management, especially in data visualization and analytics. Preference will be given to candidates with high level of demonstrated proficiency in R (including package development and version control systems), or equivalent data processing and visualization languages; geospatial and time series data; relational database management and administration; and interest in natural resource conservation and management. Additionally, preference will also be given to individuals with knowledge associated with obtaining a degree (e.g., B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) in Aquatic, Fisheries or Wildlife Sciences as it relates to animal movement, ecology, population dynamics and/ or ecology.
