All About You


The Division of Infectious Diseases at Saint Louis University School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the Director of a Computational Biology Core working with the Center for Vaccine Development and Institute of Vaccine Science and Policy. The ideal candidate will lead an innovative, multidisciplinary team to analyze and apply large-scale data in the emerging field of Systems Vaccinology. The candidate should have expertise in analyzing and integrating large datasets, including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics. Further, the applicant should have experience with data interpretation, data mining, and visualization methodologies. Saint Louis University has committed substantial resources toward developing the Institute for Vaccine Science and Policy, and the new Core Director is expected to facilitate collaborative projects with other University researchers. Priority will be given to applicants that have a strong record of high impact publications, have acquired extramural research support, and have demonstrated an interest in infectious diseases and vaccine development.


Job Duties

  • Builds a highly-skilled team that can analyze diverse datasets in the field of systems vaccinology.

  • Performs bioinformatic analyses of large scale ‘omics data from both pre-clinical and clinical samples including transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics.

  • Designs analysis tools for predicting patient outcome and treatment responses.

  • Identifies gaps in the current knowledge and design innovative approaches to address novel research questions.

  • Partners with immunologists, microbiologists, chemists, and clinicians to design experiments and interpret results.

  • Communicates bioinformatic strategies and data to those outside the field including clinicians, investors, and both legal and regulatory colleagues.

  • Communicates results through oral presentations and publications.

  • Secures extramural funding to support research program.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possesses strong programming skills and has demonstrated proficiency in working with large datasets

  • Proficient in machine learning algorithms and concepts

  • Experienced with modern statistical analysis methods

  • Knowledge of immunology, microbiology, and/or vaccinology

  • Works both independently and in a team-oriented environment

  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and able to manage competing priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong record of maintaining a productive, independent research program

  • Record of securing independent extramural research funding or a strong potential to do so

Minimum Qualifications

M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Systems Biology, Computational Biology or related field.
