What You Will Do

Pursue research within a team of genome scientists working on novel bioinformatics solutions to next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, across the fields of microbial, algal, and plant genomics.

What You Need

The candidate should be equally comfortable working independently as well as part of a team, be familiar with biological experiment design, have experience working with Illumina, PacBio, or Oxford Nanopore sequencing data in either DNAseq or RNAseq contexts, and have experience working in a UNIX/Linux cluster environment. Ideally, the candidate would have interest and expertise developing tools for multi-omics integration, 3D genome visualization, epigenetic analysis, and machine-learning processing of -omics and other biological data. Furthermore, the candidate may be required to conduct metabolic flux analysis, and/or generate systems models of plants, algae, and/or microbial communities (i.e. algal-bacteria, plant-bacteria-fungal interactions).

Minimum job requirements include:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to present and summarize research results.

  • Ability to manage time and see tasks to completion.

  • General background in biology and bioinformatics

  • Experience analyzing NGS data

  • Fluent in one or more programming languages (e.g. C++, Python, Perl, Java)

  • Ability to produce quality work by applying attention to detail

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a clearance.

Education: A Ph.D. from an accredited Doctoral Degree program in Biological Sciences or Bioinformatics (or related technical field). The candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be within five years of completion of the Ph.D.
