Description of Work Unit
The Integrated Solid Waste Section (ISW) exists to provide a clean campus on which to study, work, and live. We remove solid waste from campus according to the ISW plan, which maximizes the reuse of campus waste through recycling and composting with landfilling as a last resort.
Position Summary
This position exists to efficiently and effectively collect compostable materials from various campus buildings and deliver it to the Foothills Campus composting facility.
This position will be at the windrow composting operation at Foothills Campus. It will operate a 41,360 GVW side-load truck with a hydraulic trash bin grasper and a 64,000 GVW front load trash truck to collect compostable materials from various campus buildings and deliver them to the windrow composting facility on Foothills Campus.
-Contact customers to coordinate and evaluate services performed.
-Communicate to campus community issues regarding preventing contamination of compost collection bins.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate:
  • Three full-time years of experience operating equipment that requires a CDL Class B.
  • Must have and show documentation of a valid CDL Class A or Class B license.

  • The vehicles this position operates have full air brake systems and Facilities Management requires that candidates are willing to complete an air brake endorsement training.

Collect compostable materials throughout the campus and deliver to the windrow composting facility on Foothills Campus. In performing this function, the employee operates and performs minor operator maintenance on a 41,360 GVW side-load truck with hydraulic cart grasper and a 64,000 GVW frontload trash truck including but not limited to performing pre- and post-trip safety inspections, checking and topping off of fluids, greasing chassis joints and bearings, washing the exterior of the trucks and cleaning the interior of the packer body on the front-load trash truck.
