Summary of Duties:
The Compliance Specialist collaborates with the Director of Compliance to assure the integrity of the daily operations of the College of Medicine compliance program, inclusive of Conflict of Interest, HIPAA and other applicable federal and state regulatory requirements, and WSU policies are in compliance.
The compliance specialist implements the Conflict of Interest (COI) program management, documentation, and monitoring including the processes of online submission activities, disclosure questionnaire forms, disclosure review, tracking and support. The Specialist will execute the planning, training, education, assessment and monitoring activities especially relating to COI.
The role implements other special compliance projects or initiatives to create an effective compliance program in support of developing and providing employee compliance training relating to policies practices, and reporting systems. The specialist will prepare and update policies, communication materials, reporting of issues and investigations of violations to ensure compliance requirements and regulatory guidelines, are followed by WSU COM Offices and Departments.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience in relevant health care compliance, coordinating regulatory compliance programs in a medical school, health care delivery system, or equivalent setting.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to regulatory compliance - such as Fraud, Waste, Abuse violations, Stark and Anti Kickback provisions, patient privacy, student data, and/or other laws/regulations related to medical education and the practice of medicine.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to interact with large groups and individuals at all work levels.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Accredited qualification in regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated experience managing issues related to COI disclosures and in interpretation and application of federal and state regulations.
  • Experience assisting in conducting, reviewing, or coordinating compliance investigations.
  • Experience in reviewing documents, making edits and policy management
  • Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation.

Monthly Salary: Range 42, $3,537 to $4,723, Step A-M
Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. Step M is typically a longevity step.
