Position Highlights

The Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW) was founded in 1979 as a regional research and resource institute. SIROW’s mission is to develop, conduct, and disseminate collaborative outreach, education, intervention, and research projects of importance to diverse groups. SIROW’s community-engaged projects focus on border and migration, education and workforce development, gender and LGBTQ+ equity and social inclusion, health and housing security, sexual health, STEM and STEAM, and social justice and policy.

Family Pride Initiative is a collaboration between SIROW, the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF), Charlie Health, Palo Verde Behavioral Health, and University of Arizona Professor of Family Studies and Human Development Russ Toomey. The project aims to reduce disparities and improve outcomes for LGBTQI+ youth in Tucson and southern Arizona by strengthening supports for youth, caregivers, families, and providers. The program will provide counseling, education, and resources for LGBTQI+ youth and their caregivers and families, train counselors and other community service providers, and facilitate broader social change and acceptance of LGBTQI+ youth through a public awareness campaign. Program participants will include both Spanish- and English-speaking caregivers and youth.

The primary purpose of this position is to lead community outreach and engagement efforts for Family Pride Initiative. This position will focus 60% effort on enrolling youth participants into the project and conducting required data collection procedures. The remaining 40% effort will be split between outreach and navigation. The person in this position will be a first point of contact for prospective and new participants including LGBTQI+ youth, parents/caregivers, and families and will play an integral role in navigating new participants to the available project services as well as other community resources.

Outstanding UA benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance plans; life insurance and disability programs; paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays; UA/ASU/NAU tuition reduction for the employee and qualified family members; retirement plans; access to UA recreation and cultural activities; and more!
