Job Description Summary
The Community Health Worker I, under general supervision will serve on the cancer screening and prevention team to increase awareness of cancer prevention and screening among rural and underserved communities by direct and indirect education, organizing and/or participating in community health fairs and cancer screening events. This is a part-time grant funded position expected to work 5-8 hours per week. During peak times, hours may increase dependent on needs of the program, but will not exceed 20 hours per week.


This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor of the contract. This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or contracts and satisfactory job performance.


Qualifications


Required Education:
-Associates or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Experience:
-One year of related experience in public health, health outreach, and education.


Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare or public health and/or enrolled in a healthcare or public health degree program


Preferred Experience:
More than one year of related experience in public health, health outreach, and education.

Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Required Licenses and Certifications:
Department of State Health Services (DSHS) certification, certified Community Health Worker (CHW), or able to successfully complete the CHW certification within three months of employment.


Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Certified Community Health Worker (CHW),


Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
-Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

-Ability to travel throughout designated area to attend various community health events.


Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish


Job Responsibilities


Education and community awareness
• Participate in community health fairs and school events to provide education
• Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs on cancer screening and prevention education
• Explore barriers to vaccination and implement evidence-based programs to overcome vaccine hesitancy
• Motivates community members to be active and engaged in their health.
• Assists community members in overcoming barriers through education and engagement in order to bolster cancer screening rates


Other duties and responsibilities
• Conduct community resource assessment
• Accurately maintains daily activity logs regarding client activity and destinations
• Identify cancer screening and prevention opportunities in catchment area counties
• Provide navigation to cancer screening and education in catchment area counties
• Continuously expands knowledge and understanding of community resources and service programs provided.
