Project Eagle is an early childhood program focused on preparing children, engaging families, and promoting excellence for children and families in Kansas City, Kansas. Project Eagle provides home-based and center-based services to pregnant women and/or children ages birth to five through a variety of programs, including Early Head Start, Connections, and ABC Home Visiting. This position is responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Connections Comprehensive Early Childhood Screening and Referral program. Connections is Project Eagle’s two-generational approach to comprehensive early childhood screenings in Wyandotte County. The program has four important functions: strengthening parent-child relationships through supportive parenting education; buffering the impacts of adverse experiences in the early years through screening, education, and referrals; addressing early risks for health and developmental concerns through developmental screening; and engaging families in home visiting through referrals. The Community Engagement Coordinator is also responsible for supporting Project Eagle’s engagement with community partners to develop and promote systems that serve the comprehensive needs of families in Wyandotte County. Specifically, this position supports and promotes all Project Eagle programs in the community by attending community events, representing Project Eagle at community meetings, and engaging with local service providers and other professionals who work closely pregnant women and families with young children.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish rapport with program staff, program participants and other service providers within the community.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and making presentations to groups.
  • Possess excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with good follow through.
  • Computer proficiency
  • Must have initiative, creativity, resilience, patience, discretion, perseverance, and enthusiasm.
  • Valid driver's license and access to personal car required.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Proficiency with various social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram,
  • Knowledge of resources in Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Previous experience in the field of program marketing or program outreach.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Increases community awareness of the Connections program by communicating the goals and services of Connections to community agencies and families. Assists in developing, producing, and coordinating distribution of fliers, advertisements, brochures and other informational materials.  
  • Develops and refines training sessions and instructional materials to provide Wyandotte County service providers and community agencies information on how to effectively identify, engage, and refer pregnant women and families of young children to the Connections program and Project Eagle.
  • Works in concert with Connections staff and community agencies to develop effective family recruitment strategies and initiatives. Assists in recruitment and retention efforts, including advertising, arranging meetings, mailings and other actions.  
  • Responds to inquiries about the Connections program or other community resources as needed. Responds to questions/concerns from partnering agencies regarding the participation process for Connections.
  • Assists with facilitating and participating in strategic planning sessions and other meetings regarding policies and procedures, referral agreements, and other business of the Connections system. Coordinates the monthly Connections staff meeting.
  • Engages in Connections research efforts.
  • Participates in Connections Partner meetings for review and guidance of the comprehensive early childhood screening and referral program.
  • Serves as the lead Community Connector for the IRIS Implementation project in Wyandotte County. Including management of IRIS community partner meetings, facilitating discussions about configuring IRIS community and adopting shared expectations of use.
  • Acts as point of contact for the IRIS Implementation team as well as for current and prospective IRIS partner organizations and users.

Project Eagle

  • Represents Project Eagle/Connections at community meetings as requested.
  • Maintains regular contact with community agencies/programs to be aware of the most current services they can provide for families. Oversees the organization of resources and brochures and maintenance of a current list of community resources and the services they provide. 
  • Works in concert with Early Head Start/Head Start/ABC staff and community agencies to develop effective strategies for the recruitment of children most in need of EHS/HS/ABC services.
  • Supports the enhanced coordination of community services and organizes skill-building workshops for Project Eagle staff.
  • Supports IRIS implementation across all Project Eagle programming.

General

  • Maintains accurate, current documentation on all services provided.
  • Notifies supervisor of any unusual or at-risk situations immediately.
  • Participates in and contributes to management team and all staff meetings.
  • Participates in staff development activities and demonstrates increased knowledge, understanding and ability to transfer knowledge to practice with families.
